Right-sided pain under ribs/liver pain. Do I need to mention this to someone?

I'm 21 weeks pregnant with my second baby. For maybe the last month or so I've had intermittent pain under my ribs on the right hand side - either a dull ache or a stinging sensation. A cursory Google suggests it could be my liver, but since I have no other signs of liver problems I haven't thought too much of it and put it down to everything stretching and moving.

I'm now sick as a dog with a horrendous cold. My mum came over this morning to take my daughter out for the day, and commented that I look really yellow. She seemed a bit startled. I'm not sure I look anything other than a bit peaky and my partner hasn't said anything, but now I'm suddenly wondering if I need to speak to GP or midwife about the liver pain? WWYD?

I'd forgotten how stressful the line between vigilance and neuroticism is in pregnancy!

Sounds like it could be gallbladder pain? I know blocked bile ducts can make you go a bit yellow. I developed gallbladder problems in my second pregnancy (apparently pregnancy is a common trigger) and would often get a niggly pains exactly like you describe (my full blown attacks only started after ds was born, have since had it out no probs & everything fine now). Definitely speak to GP/midwife, if you can't be neurotic when you're pregnant when can you?!

I was coming on here to say gallbladder as well, I was diagnosed in pregnancy after spending 10 nights in hospital. Mention it to your midwife

Thanks both, I hadn't even thought about gallbladder. I'll definitely mention it to my midwife then!

@ConradKnightSocks true that! I'm generally a "better safe than sorry" kind of person, but it's hard not to worry about every little niggle when pregnant. I naively thought it wouldn't be so stressful the second time around but if anything, I'm worse!

If you are yellow then you need to go to the hospital. Liver problems can cause jaundice , which makes you turn yellow.

If you've actually gone yellow I would speak to someone today, either GP or hospital - I think they might want to do some blood tests to check what's going on.

Hope all's well.

I'm not sure if I actually am yellow though - my eyes and tongue are a normal colour, but my skin does look a bit weird. It was just that my mum remarked on it really suddenly, as soon as she arrived. I think I maybe just look like sh*t because of the cold?!

I'm going to have a shower and take some more paracetamol and see how I look after that. I'll keep an eye on it, despite how averse I am to looking in a mirror when I feel this rough! If I'm still worried I'll call my GP this afternoon.

Thanks everyone, glad to know I'm not being daft for worrying a bit about this!
