6 months trying

Another month, another negative test. 6 months trying and my friends say ‘that’s hardly any time, keep trying’, and I will, but the sheer rollercoaster every month is hard to take! From the hope around ovulation time, to that long two week DPO wait and then to have another negative test :(

I’m almost 34 and feel my age may be playing a part.

Any words of advice or positive thinking?

6 months isn't really that long a time, however I understand your frustration.

It's hard but keep trying. Go to your GP and see if you can get any support. I'm 35 and currently 10 weeks pregnant, what helped me was firstly loosing some weight (lost about a stone and went from BMI of over 30 to BMI of 29) and secondly accupuncture. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself - as your friends say 6 months isn't long and I'm sure you will get that BFP soon!

Congratulations :) that's encouraging to hear. It's so hard when you hear of people around you telling you how easily they fell pregnant within a few months so it's good to hear others' experiences too.

It took me around 8 months to become pregnant with my second at that age, my first was a one hit wonder. Definitely an age thing but don't panic yet.

Your GP is unlikely to do anything until you've been trying for a year.

12 months is normal for most couples, but the law of averages means it will be month 1 for some, and month 12 for others

What have you tried? Do you do the ovulation tests? We used them and pre-seed the month I got pregnant! Swear it was what made the difference

Yes ovulation tests and have been taking prenatal vitamins for around 8 months now too. My partner has only started taking fertility vitamins consistently though after months of nagging! Lol

It took us about a year both times to fall pregnant. I don't think we did anything differently those months we conceived, I think it just takes some people longer. I think it's the uncertainty of when / if you will conceive that I found most difficult - I'm a planner! Try and plan enjoyable things along the way to love your focus from TTC. Good luck!

Thanks. Good advice. I'm also a planner and finding that part difficult too.

I felt like this for a long time, mid 30s and had been trying for 15 months, every month I did my early pregnancy tests and got nothing and it was so disappointing but…I’m now 13 weeks pregnant. I almost gave up in the last few months before getting pregnant, I almost think that helped not fixating on it so much but I know it’s so easier said than done.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, I’m sure it’ll happen x

I was doing ovulation strips and tracking on my phone but for some reason fell pregnant when I thought it wasn't my fertile time!

Guess you are trying everything eg fertility lube, lots of sex

Rosieposy89 · 27/07/2021 16:10

6 months is honestly not long. It took us 24 cycles to get a BFP and the month we conceived we weren't focused on it (not tracking ovulation, no supplements, sex when we felt like it)

Olinguita · 27/07/2021 23:46

Took me 7 cycles aged 37. Am now 33wks along! Hang on in there, I know how demoralising it can be!

Naz2009 · 28/07/2021 00:19

Age 34 trying for 5 years to have a baby. Don't give up on your positive mind set and don't get yourself stressed and worked up each month. That's total torture on your mind and body.
Keep happy and relaxed and tell yourself "yes it will happen"
6 months of trying does feel like a lifetime I understand your emotions.
Personally I used to take folic acid tablets, now I'm taking pregnacare conceive, I use ovulation strips and have sex according to them and past 2 months I've used conceive plus fertility lubricant on my ovulation days before intercourse.
I have no health issues I'm a good healthy weight etc.
All the best of luck.
