I am just curious to know why bugaboos are so popular, I have already bought my travel system so I am not interested in buying one, I just want to know what all the hype is about thats all! (And why they cost an arm and a leg!)

OP posts:

malfoy · 27/11/2007 14:44

my mother still goes on about old style silver crosses.

chunkypudding · 27/11/2007 14:46

what is it with mn and bitchiness at the moment????

It seems I can't look at a thread without stumbling across general sniping and nastiness, aren't we supposed to be nice to each other here?

Seems crazy having a 'kindness of strangers' thread when we're all so bloody busy bitching about each other!

35 weeks, hormonal, feeling sad and grumpy and beginning to think about giving up mn - probably an overreaction but I really have been finding this site such a great support in times of adversity, but not so much lately!!!

Jackaroo · 27/11/2007 14:49

Have only just read the rest of the postings!! Obviously the irrational vitriol I feel about those driving 4x4s is coming at me in buckets every time I walk out with the bug - but I'm too dumb to have noticed.. ah well, probably karma. I should be offended, but actually feeling quietly grown up that I don't feel upset by being pigeonholed lol! That or relieved that I bought it before pretty much anyone had heard of it and therefore cannot possibly be included in the evil vibes group

I really can't imagine my sedate navy pram upsetting anyone (except maybe the russell crowes of this world who can't figure out how to put it together?? I remember it took several hours for him to put together a bug, or something similar, in the park, with paps watching and clicking away!!)..

malfoy · 27/11/2007 14:50

who has been bitchy on this thread? I apologise if I have been. CP, I think you are being over sensitive. pls don't give up on us.

Jackaroo · 27/11/2007 14:51

sorry, lost one of my postings, and re-wrote it. Can you tell I'm bored?

Apologies if I've inadvertently added to any bitching, really not feeling like that at all... ooh, chunky, don't give up. Just let it float over you, you'll be so busy in the "what the hell do I do now?" postings soon that this will all fade

Santasmissyontheside · 27/11/2007 14:53

well i love my cam

could'nt give a flying f**k if someone thought it didn't look good. i have had dozens of other buggys and went back to the cam. i will never get rid again.

as for being over rated, over priced etc etc thats down to individual opinion surely?

chunkypudding · 27/11/2007 15:09

jackaroo... no you actually made me feel better. Will try and emulate your attitude, not doing too well at the 'quietly amused by it all' thing that you are doing such a good job of.

thanks malfoy too.

i haven't even bought a bloody pram yet! have had lots of other things to be stressed about.

Santasmissyontheside · 27/11/2007 15:21

chunky pudding what buggys have you looked at?

chunkypudding · 27/11/2007 15:25

far too scared to say on this thread....

Santasmissyontheside · 27/11/2007 15:32

lol go on whisper!

JenT · 27/11/2007 15:39

We have a M&P 3 in 1 thing it has seen us through 2 kids and hopefully will do a third. it cost £350 and we got a free cot with it (kiddicare.com) and it has been brilliant. we didn't really use the carseat on the chassis but did use the carrycot for the babes to sleep in for the first 4-6 weeks (ish)
We now have it as a pushchair I love the amount of storage space underneath.. it isn't however an exciting colour.
I looked at the bugaboo Frog when we were shopping for buggys but it was quite low to the ground and DH and I are both quite tall I wanted to be able to stand up straight.
Happy shopping!

chunkypudding · 27/11/2007 15:41

... tried lots, really like the....

oh sod it, I like the cam. so does dp.

don't give a toss about celebs etc, it just seems really light, easy to maneouvre and I actually think it looks quite nice.

have been put off by the idea of being perceived as a vacuous pavement-hogging idiot though... I had no idea people had such strong feelings/judgements on these things, & don't really get why???

but then what do I know. no experience...

really glad I didn't buy preggersagain's Bugaboo off ebay, would be feeling really shite now if I had!

yeahyeah · 27/11/2007 15:41

I think they are the burberry of prams...everyone knows how much they cost...that's the appeal I think.

Santasmissyontheside · 27/11/2007 15:48

look you either love it or hate it. marmite.
i love it and have been dissaponited with everything else (other than mamas and papas but still doesnt compare)

i love it and if you like it get it!!

spugs · 27/11/2007 16:02

ive got one on a nursery plan which is coming a month before edd. i picked it because it does everything i want it to whilst still being light. plus i like the fact you can change colour if you get sick of the sight of it. ive gone for yellow and black and do worry that it might be a bit bright but its my favourite colour

Jackaroo · 27/11/2007 16:16

Will not rise to the bait, will not rise to the bait ...

...and breathe....

CP - go for it. TBH, if you find you hate it, you would get an amazing resale value on it as previous posters have confirmed Maybe I can start a subset of smugness by preferring the old frog to the new upstarts?? Spugs, only thing that would worry me about the yellow is, if it's the roof colour, how your baby will react to seeing it!! Might love it, might think good lord, send me back to the womb!! Or is it lined in something more neutral ??

It was a close thing for us between M&P Pilko, and Bug. We would have had the pilko if it had just been up to just us. The childminder who looks after DS says we've spoilt it for her because pushing anything else really annoys her. Now, I like that compliment.....

Bodkin · 27/11/2007 16:20

I've been given one on permanent loan by a friend who has gone to Oz for a year, so I am speaking honestly, rather than "i've paid a lot of money, so I better like it a lot" (not saying that anyone is saying that btw, just that's how I would feel if I had paid a lot for it IYSWIM!)

It has pluses and minuses, like all prams. It's a sod to get in the car. And the back wheels, being marginally wider than the front, get caught on every door frame I go through (or maybe I'm just a terrible driver)

On the upside, it looks lovely, has a nice big carrycot (my LO should fit in it until at least 6 months, and she sleeps like a dream in it) the rear facing pushchair will be fab when she's older and it is great for the beach and rough terrain (live by the sea so that's important for me)

They are pricey, but if you get one for your first LO and plan to have more, you get your money's worth in the end, I guess, cos it will probably outlive anything else!

preggersagain · 27/11/2007 16:27

I'm off to take dd for a walk in my silver cross bamoral (they cost £1200 don't ya know!!!)
www.parentdish.com/2006/04/04/silver-cross-balmoral-stroller-is-3500-and-it-doesnt-even-fo/

Just buy a pram if its what you like, does what you need and fits in your car- but whatever you do don't buy one because x, y and z all have one and sleb tarts 1, 2 &3 are all getting one. and bear in mind if you do go for a bug there will always be people looking at you in a certain way

SazzaK · 27/11/2007 17:09

Sorry but it's absolute toss that people buy them because everyone knows how much they cost. Actually I got 20% off mine on a selfridges shopping day anyway. As many others have said, they are light, easy to push, fun to change colours, lovely for babies (can't stand a newborn in a forward facing maclaren myself - they need cossetting and protecting poor little things) and great for toddlers who like to face mum/dad/nana whatever. Not everyone is obsessed with money and what things cost - different choices and priorities for different people.

yeahyeah · 27/11/2007 17:25

Can't deny a lot of people do buy them for the burberry factor though, there are an awful lot of teenage mums with them these days.

NorthernLurker · 27/11/2007 18:10

Oh come on yeahyeah - a teenage mother is just as capable as any other age mum of looking at a pram and deciding that they want it because it does what they need. I think your post of 17.25 was unfair - why shouldn't a teenage mum have a bugaboo?

NaeDanger · 27/11/2007 18:24

a couple of my friends have quinnys and my GOD are they heavy to push! i'd take my frog anyday!
AND out of about 10 of us I'm the only one who hasn't bought another smaller buggy now that the kids are a bit older. ds is 2 and i still use it every day. (facing me so that i don't have to stop every 5 five because he needs to tell me that he saw a car)

NaeDanger · 27/11/2007 18:24

5 FEET rather.

ScottishMummy · 27/11/2007 18:26

bugaboo sceptics -lol i always find it so so interesting why an inanimate object, a pram, just a pram can get folk in such a lather

i bought cameleon as second pram because my first pram a quinny was rickety, unstable, had no suspension, not easy to steer baby looked uncomfortable and slumped esp at 6month plus. no longer use quinny for these reasons

resoans for purchase
holds resale value v well - look on ebay or for sale boards generally go £400-£450, not a bad return on initial investment
nice accessories, lovely colours, easy to personalize/individualise
great suspension steering
easy maneouvre
easy =on/off buses - i know i do this daily, fits in adjacent other prams and behind the saferty bar
flippable handle for when in tight space = less room, flip up on us
excellent quality
on quinny the logo transfers rubbed off after few weeks

burberry factor?do not know what that is

simple aesthetics and function, and good economics (high resale) the footmauff cost £70 new and sells @£45 2nd hand = good return

think there is a teensy weensy and there is a bit of too cool for school herd mentality in hating bugaboo

mine is a year old and i look forward to selling it for £400plus

yeahyeah · 27/11/2007 18:27

did I say something un pc? was it the use of the word 'teenage'? Should I have said chav?
People want things for all different reasons, all I'm saying is a lot of people just want the bugaboo because it costs a lot and celebs have it...if you want to show off then it's the one to get.
