Any sonographers on here?!

We had our gender scan on Friday and I was 16+1. They said it’s a baby girl which we are so pleased about, it almost seems to good to be true as that was both of our preference. They gave me this picture but can anyone work out what I’m meant to be looking at?! They didn’t show me when I was there as we were doing a gender reveal and finding out with family. Would just like some more clarification that it’s a girl if possible 😊

Hi firstly congratulations!! I’m a midwife sonographer and so sorry can’t make that scan pic out! It’s not a great pic. So I’m not much help to you!

@TwinsJan22 off topic but as you know what you're talking about and would be a more reliable source than Google...would you say a hb of 116 at 6+1 is a very bad sign? My consultant said it was 'worrying' but I was so amazed there was a hb at all (after 4mcs) forgot to ask any of the questions I've since thought of! It feels like an eternity til my next scan and I don't know whether I should be hopeful it works out or preparing myself that the next scan will be bad news.

Wow I can’t believe your consultant would say that! Especially after 4 miscarriages. Anything between 90 upwards at this stage is absolutely fine. The heartbeat has only just started. I’d a scan at exactly 6 weeks and the heart rate was 96bpm. If it was under 90 I’d bring someone back for a repeat scan in 2 weeks but other than that it would be a huge congratulations!!!!!

Thank you @TwinsJan22 I'm so grateful to you for replying. Have got myself really worked up about it. He's a private recurrent miscarriage consultant so I guess he's being cautious to prevent disappointment but arghhh it's such a rollercoaster! You've given me hope - thank you!

It is such a rollercoaster!!! I always find myself finding something to worry about at every stage-I’m nearly looking for a problem so I can prepare myself for bad news. It’s self protection I guess!!! Best of luck though. I hope this is your beautiful 🌈 baby x

@TwinsJan22 sorry to jump on this post but I had a scan at the beginning of the week I new i was exactly 6+2 because I chart my bbt but the measurements were showing 5+2 there was a good heartbeat ect and the sonographer said its nothing to worry about and to go bk for another scan in 2 weeks, in your experience of being a midwife sonographer would you say I should expect miscarriage or can it be normal to have that result at 6 weeks, I'd appreciate any response good or bad because I rather know what to expect ,thankyou for reading

Congratulations and I’ve no prob helping out. When you say you’re sure of your dates-lots of women say this but the only people who are 100% sure of dates are those who do IVF. I know women who have a spot on 28 day cycle or only had sex one night in a cycle still can be measuring ahead or behind because nobody knows exactly the moment of conception or implantation. So that’s why you might be measuring behind. Also it depends if the scan was through your tummy or vaginally-I would 100% hope it was vaginally. Also the little embryo we measure is so so tiny that it can come down to the sonographers measurements. I’m not trying to give you false reassurance but I think look at the positives: there was a heartbeat and you’ve no bleeding or pain so that’s all really positive. I know I would be worried too if I was told I was a week behind so I wish I could reassure you more!
Sadly though it can be a sign that the pregnancy is in trouble and I know the waiting is torture but hopefully in 2 weeks there’ll be growth and development with that lovely heartbeat 💗.
Having had a miscarriage before I went into my early pregnancy scans this time with hope but always had miscarriage in my thoughts too to protect myself.
Anyway best of luck, keep positive and I hope the next scan is the reassurance you need! X

I had a scan with DD at 6+4 and her heartbeat was 117. Sonographer said it would have just started beating. Had a textbook pregnancy and she's now a healthy toddler.

@TwinsJan22 thankyou so much for the advice sorry about you previous m/c and congratulations on your new pregnacy .im just going to keep preparing my self now for it to b 50/50 chance and wait for the next scan

I'm an IVF pregnancy so 100% on my dates. At my seven week scan with the fertility clinic I measured 6+2 and went into complete panic mode. Went for a scan a week later (private booked) and measured exactly 8 weeks as I should have.
Baby is so small at that stage that I think it's quite easy for measurements to be off. A mm here or there can completely throw things off

OP I think it’s more the fact that no boy bits are visible, therefore you can assume it’s a girl. I had 2 boys and it was very clear they were boys.

@willithappen thankyou so much for sharing your experience, im sure of my dates my first day of my af was 8th June, got my peak on clearblue day 13 I ovulated on cycle day 14 and got my first positive pregnancy test 10 days later on cycle day 24,my cycles at normal 26/27 day I definitely ovulated on 14 because i do my basal body temp and didnt dtd after ovalation was confirmed on fertility friend ,you've give me some hope that my next scan will be ok I was going to book in for a private scan on tuesday (exactly 1 week after last scan ) but they ate fully booked so I'm going to have to wait it out to the 3rd aug with the epu

@TwinsJan22 I'm so sorry to butt in on this thread but we found out we are having a little boy. However there is a massive black hole where his bottom should be - sonographer
didn't say anything at all but now I'm like .. what is that?!

@zeromango I'm a vet so not at all qualified in human scans 😂 but do ultrasound regularly. I'd say that black round thing is babys bladder.

@Firsttry132 I imagine the area directly under "girl" with the three lines next to each other is what identifies baby as girl.
