Vitamin d deficiency is this why?

Found out today that I have very low vitamin d been prescribed 1600 a day is this why I have had 4 chemical pregnancies? I have read that lack of vitamin d causes inflammation of the womb would this rectify itself ?

I don’t know if this is the cause of your chemical pregnancies but I’m so sorry to hear about them. It’s very hard to go through.

I had a real hard time getting pregnant with my first, took 3 years. Saw a fertility clinic with my second who diagnosed me with low vit D, got pregnant a month after it reached a good level. Have taken supplements ever since (now accidentally pregnant with number 3 which feels like a miracle for me).

To me, it’s one of those things what you need to have at a good level for your health anyway (particularly women) so it absolutely can’t hurt.

No one knows but a friend of mine had a similar problem. She now has two healthy children.

Incidentally if you are told to take a specific maintenance dose by a doctor and get pregnant do not under circumstances blindly follow your midwife's advice if she tells you to take supplements with a lower dose. Go to your GP and talk to them.

I ended up having a disagreement with my booking midwife about my vitamin D supplements amongst other things. The midwife simply refused to believe that my GP had told me to take a higher dose of vitamin D than what was in the pregnancy supplements she was telling me to take. My GP was horrified when I told her, and my obstetrician - as I was consultant led - then backed up my GP.

It's a possibility - a significant Vit D deficiency was at the root of my having enough menopause symptoms to be misdiagnosed with early menopause for 5 years - but no one can know for certain as others said.

Bodies are complicated things, and good support to ensure you're getting what you need should at least help if not likely to be a cure-all.

Thank you all this is the only test so far that has came back with a problem so I'm hoping that's it xx

Still trying last loss was the end of Jan early Feb, I asked for the tablets but she said they take longer to break down and you don't get the full effect of them cause it takes longer to break down, I'm getting progesterone on my nxt bfp so hoping they help things xx

charlotte0808 · 24/07/2021 15:54

I was adamant the progesterone would of worked for me but it didn't. Good luck hope everything goes well for you 🤞 xx

I started my vitamin d and after 3 months got pregnant with my daughter who is 3 on the 8th may and also I have my son who turned 1 last month so yes definitely was the problem for me. Are you having the same issues if you don’t mind me asking xx

No worries at all. My doctor prescribed me with the correct dosage of fultium d3 which is vitamin d she said I had a severe vitamin d deficiency. I was on 1600 a day then. Have they prescribed you with anything now? X

They didn’t prescribe me with anything. They just said I had low vitamin D and was advised to start taking it. I didn’t even see the result or anything so I don’t know the right dosage that I need. I am thinking of going private bcos I am actually tired of my Gp. Do you mind giving me the name of the private clinic you used?. But in the main time, I think I would be using the 1600. Or what do you think?. Thank you

charlotte0808 · 28/04/2025 07:19

I just went to my go I didn’t go private. Can you bring again and ask can they prescribe you the correct dosage that’s what I would do. Maybe yours isn’t that low but they have recommended you a take vitamin d so they should of prescribed it maybe just buy it in the meantime your self and eat list of food that contain vitamin d xx

Also get a print out of your actual test result.

That way when you retest - which you will have to do privately and advised to do yearly from now on - you will know if your dosing is working.
