28 weeks, stretch and sweep

Hi all. I'm 38+2, had a sweep done and she said I was 3-4cm dilated, 1cm thick cervix, -2 Station, central/soft- effacing, 2/5th palpable.

My sweep with my first worked the same day. DS born the morning after. Really hoping this does too.

What does that all mean?
Anyone have success stories at 38 weeks? (Only the successful ones pls :) )

Why are you having a sweep at 38 weeks? The description of your cervix is fairly typical of a multip (someone who’s had a baby before) Essentially a sweep is unlikely to work, no matter how favourable your cervix unless you’re ready to labour. Good luck x

I had a sweep at 39 was 3-4cm with little cervix left baby born the following day

@peacefulspirit I'm allowed a sweep because I'm getting induced at 40 weeks and i wanted to avoid that completely if I can. Baby is measuring big also so they offered to help kick-start things

I had a sweep at 37weeks, I had an average bishops score but I had a weakened cervix ( was on progesterone from 22 weeks)….. sweep 11am , bit of bleeding , plug went. Contractions by 10pm, 7cms by midnight.

She was my 2nd.

I didn’t mean that you weren’t ready to labour btw, just that regardless of whether sweep is 37 or 42 weeks if your body isn’t ready, it isn’t ready. X

I went into labour naturally at 37+4 with my first but I was progressing very slowly so they gave me a stretch and sweep and he was born the next day but about 16 hours after my sweep.

I’m 38 weeks tomorrow with my second and I really thought I’d be early again but so far no signs of this baby coming! Wish I could have a sweep done the way I’m feeling! I’m done being pregnant now!

Thank you. I just checked the score and it came up as 8. Not sure what it all means exactly though it didn't make much sense to me haha.

8 is great… that means that induction is favourable and would work now… so I think I the sweep will work for you!!

Bishop’s Score is used to assess how “favourable” your cervix is with a view to breaking your waters as a method of induction. The higher the score the more favourable. When you’ve had a baby before, particulate relatively recently, your cervix will be open, it is also softer and easier to stretch.

Update for all, so labour contractions started after around 4pm and got worse very slowly. At about midnight it was really bad and by 1:30 I was bleeding and my show came. Came straight to hospital and was 4-5cm dilated. Still waiting on baby but labour slowed because of some pain relief I had. So in my case, the sweep worked ♡ thank you for all your comments x

In my trust if they induce you in any way before 39 weeks they encourage you to have steroids first. Is it not the same everywhere?!
