Fizzy Drinks

I'm currently 30wks pregnant and in the heat I'm craving fizzy drinks...cold with ice and a slice of lemon! The fizzy drinks we have in are sugar free, diet or caffeine free, just wondering are these ok to have? And if you do have these types of fizzy drinks do you limit yourself to how many?

I have 1 flavoured fizzy drink or can a day but usually have as natural as possible like cawston and then for the rest of the day I have fizzy water x

I've been craving coke with ice so I've been allowing myself to have a can a day (sugar free) and then I make sure all the rest of my tea/coffee is decaffeinated for the day.

I think if they are caffeine free a reasonable amount is fine. Try to choose ones which aren’t too sugary either. The “Dash” style fizzy waters are quite good imo. I am going through lots of caffeine free Diet Coke. Hardly a poster child for good health but it’s kept me going.

This pregnancy I have loved fizzy drinks and they are perfectly fine. I do limit myself to 2 max but often just have the one. Ours are sugar free too, do have some caffinated ones but within daily limit and try to only have them when I am eating or I get heartburn.

They're not great when you're pregnant but my midwife told me to have a glass or two if I wanted to but make sure it's sugar and caffeine free.

OverTheWater · 23/07/2021 11:28

I've been craving these too. I try not to have more than one a day, and baby kicks like a donkey after them so I'm pretty sure they aren't doing me much good!

I tend to go for the San Pellegrino orangeade as it has some natural ingredients (Well, water is natural, not sure about the rest but it's got to be better than fanta fruit twist)

Fizzy water with a little bit of lime cordial is nice, a healthier alternative to sugary drinks. Even if you use lime cordial with sugar in, you’re only using a bit.

I have honestly never heard this before? What’s wrong with fizzy drinks when pregnant? I lived on lime and soda when pregnant (spent a small fortune on limes!). I’m so glad I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to have them! Out of interest, how does the fizz affect the baby?

Fanta actually has no caffeine in any of their drinks in general. They're very similar in calories and sugar. Literally about 0.2g difference.

I looked at a lot of fizzy drinks ingredients when I was pregnant and had cravings Grin.

Sugar & Caffeine.

I had a fanta fruit twist the other day and it was sublime!

I'm trying to limit caffeinated fizzy drinks but only because I'm still drinking coffee and tea in moderation and don't want to totally overdo it.

Non-caffeinated I haven't limited at all really.

OverTheWater · 23/07/2021 11:42

PrettyBlunt it's not the caffeine I'm concerned about, more the artificial sweetners and colourings!

Miliao · 25/07/2021 07:01

But not all fizzy drinks have sugar and caffeine in? I can only think of Coke that has both. Surely soda water is ok, with some flavouring like lemons, oranges, or limes. Although I guess fruit has a lot of sugar in…

supersonicginandtonic · 25/07/2021 07:12

I had my 4th baby earlier this year and I have never been told to limit fizzy drinks. Ever!
Caffeine yes but even the midwife said 2 cans of Pepsi Max a day, was fine.

polkadotpixie · 25/07/2021 08:28

I had bad sickness when I was pregnant with DS and couldn't stomach anything except fizzy drinks for months, it doesn't appear to have done him any harm

Shootingstar11 · 25/07/2021 09:41

Robinsons Lime and Mint cordial with soda is 👍😊

Mommabear20 · 25/07/2021 09:44

Not proud, but I drank ssoooooo much Diet Coke when pregnant with my daughter, that pregnancy was perfectly straight forward and she was born healthy and happy, and is now a thriving 1 year old!

Obviously don't recommend drinking as much as I did, but I certainly wouldn't beat yourself up for having some, especially so far on in your pregnancy if you've been super good so far.
