Hi

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and I have really swollen feet and ankles. The skin also feels tight. I rang maternity triage and they said not to worry and think it is just due to the heat. They have been like this for about a week or just over (that I've noticed anyway). Triage told me to put my feet up... laughable when i never do due to having a toddler already haha.

Anyway my hands don't seem swollen and my face doesn't. I don't have a headache although I'm starting to think I have a mild one now.

I'm going to insist on a urine sample been checked at my gps tomorrow but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this before and if I should be worried? Honestly my feet are double in size. My legs seem a bit swollen too.

Tia x

I’m nearly 32 weeks and for over a week now (since the Warmer weather arrived), my feet and ankles have been super swollen.

No other signs though. Had a standard midwife appointment today and urine was all fine, as was blood pressure etc.

So in my case, definitely a case of the heat and just general third trimester ness!!!!

@Moominmiss fingers crossed it's the same for me. I've just never seen feet like it 😂 they actually throb with pain now!!! So ready for some rain

Had this in my first pregnancy — it was three summers ago and the heat was unrelenting! I could never get an appointment with the midwife (she was only available at my surgery every other Friday and half of those were either bank hols or booked as leave without cover) so I bought a blood pressure monitor to use at home. It wasn’t wildly expensive (about £25 I think) and provided me with some peace of mind.

You need your blood pressure and urine checked, it might just be swelling it might not, there's no way to no other than checking those two.

@Garman I last had my blood pressure checks on 12th July. My urine hasn't been tested for a while though

I'm on a daily low dose aspirin which I've read lowers blood pressure so would this rule out preeclampsia? X

I'm the same swollen feet etc. I had some trace urine in my urine sample which they weren't concerned about but I went on Amazon and bought the urine test strips for my own monitoring and they've been fine - just telling me I'm dehydrated which is expected in this weather!!

This happened to me with my first. July born so very hot at the end of my pregnancy. My ankles were huge I could poke a finger in them and it would leave an indent. Dont remember my hands being swollen, but then I didn't wear any rings when I was pregnant with my first.
I also had to were slippers to the hospital while in labput with my third. The only she's I had that I could still get on for the last 3 months were fleece lined lace up boots, and by the time I was in labour, I couldn't even get them on.

Low dose aspirin can help to keep blood pressure down but unfortunately it can’t prevent either high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia entirely. Your swollen feet are almost certainly just the result of pregnancy + hot weather so no need to panic, but do keep an eye out for any other symptoms just in case.
