5.5 weeks pregnant bleeding

I am 5.5 weeks pregnant with an IVF baby and 2 nights ago I had a bit of spotting (a small bit of watery red blood when I wiped and then brown) and lots of cramps. Anyway I went to the early pregnancy unit yesterday and they scanned me and could see a yolk and sac and said everything looked fine for this stage although it's obviously too early to see a heartbeat and it could be just implantation. But this evening I've had the same again and some mild cramping and weird pulling on my left side and now I'm terrified again and scared to move. Please could I hear success stories as I didn't have this with my first pregnancy. Thanks

I had a heavy bleed at nine weeks and was convinced I was miscarrying. I didn't though - I ended up having a textbook pregnancy and now have a crazy, rampaging 16 month old. I didn't know it at the time but most bleeding in pregnancy is completely benign. I hope everything progresses smoothly for you now, I remember the sheer terror I felt and it was horrible waiting to find out.

Thank you so much for responding @DerbyshireMama. It's horrible isn't it?! I feel so crampy this evening I'm terrified but I just keep trying to take deep breaths and think positively. 🤞I'm so glad everything worked out for you.

I had an awful bleed at 6.5 weeks (IVF baby too)
I was sure it was over, passed clots and everything, horrific cramps.
Turns out I had a subchioronic haematoma which can be quite common with ivf pregnancies apparently.
The bleeding subsided after about 3 days and I've had nothing since.
I'm 12 weeks now and baby is jumping and twisting around like mad on my most recent scan.

Thanks so much @coffeewithmilk. The bleeding was mostly brown and seems to have pretty much stopped but I'm feeling really crampy tonight too as if my period is coming. Did either you or @DerbyshireMama have cramps with your bleeds or no cramping? Thanks

I wish you the best, but I've had a heavy bleed since testing positive. I'm yet to confirm the worst but I'm certain it's over. There was too much blood. But I'll be testing tomorrow to find out for sure I was advised to give it a week so hcg levels can drop

coffeewithmilk · 22/07/2021 21:47

@sunflower60 I had horrific cramps and lower back pain. Apparently the cramping is the uterus contracting to get rid of the blood.
Brown blood is completely normal in early pregnancy. Are you on progesterone because it was IVF? The progesterone pessaries themselves can cause cervix irritation which can cause spotting and brown discharge.
I wouldn't be really worrying unless you start to bleed bright red filling a pad.
Are you booked for an early scan? Hopefully your clinic can get you in soon for a scan.
Good luck x

Thanks so much @coffeewithmilk. This is exactly what I have...horrific cramps and lower back ache but no blood now when I wipe and it was only a small amount before and mostly brown. I have an early scan booked for a week today so I will just have to wait I guess. Yes I am on the pessaries and some other medication. I thought about doing another pregnancy test but I guess it would be pointless either way as it would probably still show pregnant even if there was a problem.
@fertilitybs I am really sorry you are going through this. I wish you all the best too.

@sunflower60 aside from the bleed I had, I did have intermittent cramping from week 5-9. Some days it was worse than others and felt as though I could start my period at any time. It's the uterus expanding to make room for the growing baby.
It's so hard to stay relaxed, especially after an IVF pregnancy because you've gone through so much to get to this point.
Take it easy and rest the next few days, lots of water and your early scan will be here before you know it. I'm sure everything will be ok.
X

You are so kind, thank you @coffeewithmilk . It's really reassuring to hear that. x

Hi,

I am also going through a similar situation at the moment and wondered how you are now? Did you have a scan?

3 days ago i went to the toilet and when I wiped there was blood this happened 3 times in the space of around 2 hours then just stopped. I had cramping too but I’ve had on and off cramping since my transfer !

my scan is not until Wednesday and just been passed myself since.

hope your well and everything went ok x

Hi @HopeIVFul. Stay positive...my bleeding turned out to be a beautiful baby girl who is now nearly 6 months old and sleeping next to me. It's such a horrible anxious wait and I was sure it must mean it was over but I was wrong and with any luck will be so worth it xx
