Hiya

I'm really struggling with heartburn at the moment, I've been taking gaviscon, Rennie tablets and trying anything anyone tells me.

But it just isn't helping. I am avoiding any spicy stuff as well 😭 feel like crying as its so bad I can't sleep. I'm 23+4 week if that helps

Any tips?

Go and see your GP and ask for omeprazole. I suffered hideously through my first 2 pregnancies and then during my third I happened to mention it to my GP who immediately gave me a prescription and cured it completely. I'm still annoyed no one mentioned it with dc 1 and 2!

The only thing that worked for me was drinking the liquid pink gaviscon.

At its worst I was on 3 bottles a week. It was unbearable.

Tablets did nothing.

Thanks ladies.

I'm going to try gp tomorrow and also get the pink gaviscon 😳

I got prescription meds from my gp but to be honest after a certain timeframe they just stopped working. It's horrific and there are still foods I refuse to eat as they just remind me of that time .

I’m on omeprazole from the GP, it helps with the heartburn but slows my digestion right down.
Make sure you don’t take Gaviscon 2 hours either side of taking omeprazole as it can stop it working (Gaviscon can absorb various medications).

Omeprazole totally fixed my heart burn in my second pregnancy

Narwhalsh · 22/07/2021 19:54

I’ve had it for all 3 of my pregnancies, it’s started earlier with every one... I was prescribed ranitidine for the first two but omeprazole seems to be the current drug of choice, I’m 24w and trying to hold off getting a prescription just using gaviscon tabs/liquid and tums and avoiding my triggers. See if you can pin point whats triggering you-chocolate and pizza seems to be some of my worst things right now, acidic foods are usually bad, fruit juices... lying on my left side is generally better, avoid eating triggering foods (sometimes any foods) before bed (several hours before!)

Ugh, horrible heartburn memories! Good luck to you all Grin

Thanks everyone 😭 I hear you all

At the moment anything I eat is giving me heartburn.. So can't pinpoint it.

@Undersnatch 😂

I just lived on milk and avoided diluting juice or anything else basically! Mine was so bad until 30/32ish weeks and suddenly I’d gone a few days and just realised I hadn’t had it 🤔 it comes and goes now but is nowhere near as bad as it was earlier on. It was when it started keeping me up at night that I was really fed up 😩🔥

SheABitSpicyToday · 22/07/2021 20:27

Milk is the only thing helping me atm. Considering I never used to touch it, we now buy 12 pints a week!

LunaDreams · 22/07/2021 20:28

Omeprazole is the only thing that worked for me. Wonderful stuff

MissLC · 22/07/2021 20:49

I got peptac from the pharmacy which worked far better for me than gaviscon. Its also under £3.50 for a huge bottle so probably worth a shot!

HalloHello · 22/07/2021 22:17

Milk isn't great for heart burn in the long run, the high fat content worsens acid over time and can make your symptoms worse! Omeprazole is your friend here, I started a few weeks ago and haven't needed a sip of gaviscon since.

Hopefulmummie · 22/07/2021 23:17

Did you try the double action gaviscon? Mines was terrible and it was the only thing worked for me

Ava50x · 23/07/2021 09:29

I swear by Omeprazole, its a miracle drug!
I'm currently 35 weeks and been taking it since 24 weeks when the heartburn got bad and nothing helped. I'm now on 2 a day- one in the evening and one in the morning. It gets rid of it completely. Best thing ever!!

Paint69 · 23/07/2021 09:50
