Hi,

I'm 36 weeks today, my hospital bag is sorted but I'm just starting on baby's bag. Baby is due via csection in early august, I've never had a summer baby so no idea what to pack for them to wear!

I haven't invested in any woollen cardys or hats or anything.. I assumed it would be too hot?

What did all you fellow mums of summer babies pack?

Thanks for any replies xx

My last one was an August baby, I packed some long sleeve and some short sleeved sleep suits, you'll also need a blanket or a star wrap like this one from Tuppence & Crumble, just in case it turns cooler and you leave the hospital at night Smile

I've packed 3 x bodysuits, 3 x sleepsuits in up to 1mth. 2 x bodysuits, 2 x sleepsuits in 0-3mth. 2 x hats, 2 x blankets, 2 pairs socks, 24pk nappies, 1pk wet wipes, nappy bags, foldable changing mat, antibacterial spray, mini nappy cream, 1 box 70ml bottles of formula, 4 x muslins.
Our girl is on the large side which is why I've packed 2 sizes, having elcs at 39wk. Hubby can bring extra if I need any but hoping to only stay 1 night.

@BunnyRuddington thanks!!

I've packed x4 short sleep with bodysuits, I need some vest type bodysuits with no sleeves too. I've bought two outfits, baby is expected to be on the bigger size so I've packed some 0-3 and first size just in case.

I'm not sure if I even need a hat! I feel like my winter baby was easier to pack for haha

My late june baby was given a woolly hat by the hospital as what i took wasnt warm enough

@Chelyanne I'm the same, baby is measuring ahead and his big brother was also very big and I wasn't prepared, so when we had him nothing fit and we needed to run out for 0-3 haha!

I'm going to have to pack a mix of first size with 0-3

August can be tricky. I had DD on 17 August last year. The day she was born was sweltering and then the 2 days we were in hospital it chucked it down! And I was by the window in postnatal so the windows were all open for the benefit of those further into the room. So I’d take a few blankets and long arm vests, so you can bundle little one up if needs be.

I’d still definitely take a hat, if it’s breezy the day you leave hospital you’ll want to keep their head snug, even if it’s not ‘cold’ cold. Plus the midwives were very keen to make sure she was wearing one for some reason 😂

My DS was born last august.

I took
3 x short sleeve vests in first size
3 x sleep suits first size
2 x short sleeve vests 0-3
2 x sleep suits in 0-3
( he was a big long baby and 0-3 pretty much fitted him on day 1)

He had a woolly hat on straight after birth then just a jersey hat after that. Stayed in for 2 days and there was a heatwave, didn’t bother with the hat after day 1 until we went home. Still dressed him in a vest & sleep suit though.

Cellular blanket too x

I’m due same time as you. I had packed a cotton hat for baby but my friend told me my hospital want them to wear a wooly hat (even if it’s roasting) so they provide one if you don’t take one. I’ve now put a wooly hat in too! Other than that I’ve got 5 vests, 5 long sleeve sleepsuits, an outfit for coming home and a ‘first outfit’ that’s basically a sleepsuit. If the weather is anything like this I think he might end up just wearing a vest a lot of the time! I might add in a short sleepsuit too. Everything is in newborn size. Also packed a thin swaddle, a cotton blanket and a cellular blanket. You’d think I was going for a few months not days 🙈
