Are juniper berries safe?

Hello! I have tried Googling this but couldn't find a clear answer. I was going to make a pork dish tonight that uses ground juniper berries and pepper.

Does anyone know if juniper berries are safe to use as flavouring during pregnancy?

Thanks!

I'm curious as to what makes you think they might not be? Are some other berries considered unsafe?

Apparently- but I don't know much about them so thought I'd check. Smile

I don't know if you are in the UK, but I follow the NHS advice, and no other. www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/foods-to-avoid/
You can find someone somewhere telling you to avoid everything if you look hard enough!

I have Googled it and few pages say its not safe. But I can't find anything relating to the NHS and juniper.

I always thought, Juniper tea was to be avoided in pregnancy. Something to do with affecting the uterus. But I don't know how true it is. Ots not something I would usually drink, so never looked into it too much.

A herbal remedy is going to be different to the berries, it's likely to be a lot more concentrated.

As another pp, I just go with what the NHS website says.

Thanks everyone! I will just avoid them for the dish. They are probably fine but I'll just stress unnecessarily. Thanks again!
