Wearing dress to scan??

Morning :) I've got my 12 week scan today and it's rather warm. Just wondering if it's appropriate to wear a dress to my scan? Obviously they need access to your stomach and a dress is going to be pulled up. Seems silly but is it rude/uncomfortable for the person scanning me that my bottom half would be bare except for underwear??

Hi and congrats! Goodluck with the scan Smile
No not at all. I wore a dress to my last scan and they just give me some privacy to pull it up and give me a gown that I could use to cover my bottom half if I wanted.

BabyMoonPie · 21/07/2021 09:45

On my scan letter it said wear loose clothing or you can ask for a gown if you want. A gown is essentially a dress so I'm sure you'll be ok. It's the hottest day of the year and you're pregnant, wear what you're comfortable in. I'm sure the sonographer won't mind

Stop and think - these professionals carry out transvaginal scans as well as abdominal ones.

Do you really think they are bothered by someone in underwear?

CornishGem1975 · 21/07/2021 09:46

They won't care about seeing your underwear, as long as you're comfortable, go for it!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/07/2021 09:46

totally fine.

you can ask your lower half to be covered if you feel exposed but honestly they couldn't care less about your knickers on show.
they just don't.

wear whatever you are most comfortable in

Amz6219 · 21/07/2021 09:46

I didn't feel too comfortable with it (despite having a ridiculous amount of TV scans in the past!), so I just put cycling shorts under the dress x

WimpoleHat · 21/07/2021 09:51

This is obviously your first scan….once you have had a baby, all worries about privacy/people seeing your undies fly out of the window 😂

Nobody will think anything of it; bodies are their job. Just do what you’re comfortable with. Hope all goes well for you!

@WimpoleHat

very true!
I have 7 kids and sometimes I'd drop my clothes or knickers for checks before the midwives asked me too
🤣🤣

I'd say they have seen it all. But ur ur worried throw a pair of shorts on underneath just for the scan. Then take them off again.

Chelyanne · 21/07/2021 12:44

They ask you to wear 2 piece outfit on my letters. Pop a pair of shorts under.
They may have seen all sorts but I wouldn't rock up in a dress unless I was expecting an internal exam.

sunshinecitrus1 · 21/07/2021 13:32

I had a scan on Monday and wore a dress. Way too hot for leggings or anything like that! I was so glad I did in the end as the hospital was SO hot, no fans or air con in the waiting room. To top it off when I was called in for the scan, they had 4 / 5 power cuts one after the other so I spent about 30 minutes in the scan room waiting for their PC’s to be rebooted and for the scan to be completed! I was happily laying there with a massive bit of tissue over my bottom half waiting for the lights to go back on! Smile

Houserenoqueen · 21/07/2021 13:36

I wore a playsuit to a scan without thinking...
You will be fine in a dress.

PrettyBlunt · 21/07/2021 13:40

It's fine don't worry!

I had my 12 week scan in January and wore leggings. They had to come off anyway and my pants for transvaginal scan.

Soverymuchfruit · 21/07/2021 13:48

They gave me a sheet of that quality big paper towel stuff to keep the gel off my trousers. I'm sure you can ask for similar to drape over the top of your pants if your uncomfortable. But the person doing the scan really will not care either way in the least.

😂😂
victopai · 21/07/2021 15:38

I was given blue paper towel to cover my knickers.

Sunflowerx · 21/07/2021 15:43

There's not a chance I'm wearing leggings in this heat, but as it's my first pregnancy I'm still clinging on to the tiny bit of dignity I have left so I've just been chucking a pair of cycling shorts on under my dress for scans/appointments. The midwife who checked the heartbeat got me a bit sheet of tissue off before I lay on the bed as I hadn't said I had shorts on but like everyone else has said, they've seen it all before!

hullaballoo19 · 21/07/2021 18:08

Thanks all 😊 I wore my dress and glad as was boiling!!

@WimpoleHat it's actually not, my dd is nearly 10! But wasn't hot when having my scans with her so just pulled top up and trousers down a bit 😊

I wore a dress but took cycling shorts in my bag and just put them on before the scan then took them off straight after
