Medicated miscarriage - how long will the bleed go on for?

Hello

I just had my fourth loss, this time I chose to do medicated management instead of the surgery as I had done previously. I have had one medicated miscarriage before.

I bled heavily on Thursday night and passed the sac. I had some very little red bleeding on Friday and then it turned into brown discharge when I wipe, sometimes I get stringy bits, but it is not much at all. I had a scan yesterday, they said there are some small clots and some blood in the uterus that will come away, but the worst is over. She wasn't very clear on when to expect this, she said it can take up to 4 weeks. I really don't want this to be dragging out for so long, just want to move on. With two of my losses I have suffered retained tissue, even after surgery, so I had to have it done twice. With my second loss I had surgery, then bled heavily about two weeks after, then had another surgery. With my first medicated management I bled for about a week and then stopped, they scanned and said there is retaining tissue so I had to have surgical management.

We are going away on 31st for two weeks to see our families at our home country and I am adamant that I want to enjoy this time as we haven't seen them for two years, I don't want to be thinking if I am going to bleed heavily somewhere unexpected, worry about infection.

If you have had medicated management, how long did the bleeding go on for?

I bled very heavily on the day, with sudden passing of lots of tissue and blood (more than I imagined my uterus would hold) and then the bleeding slowed down immediately and stopped after a couple of days. I was advised to take a pregnancy test 2 weeks later and this was negative.

Please look after yourself!

@Peachi82 I know and I wouldn't expect my test to be negative now, no way, but I wanted to if it is getting lighter - came up straight away, dark as ever!

I bled for 9 days following on from the day of actual miscarriage. I remember also doing a test a few days after and it was still as dark as ever. It took at least 10-11 days from the miscarriage before the HCG no longer impacted on my ovulation sticks, I didn’t continue with pregnancy tests the whole way through the bleeding to lessen the cost but I do remember that once my ovulation tests were back to a 0.2, I then pregnancy tested to make sure I was fully negative which I was.

It did take longer than I expected to be honest, but surprised me that I ovulated at a pretty usual time for me in that cycle, even with HCG being in my system right up to CD10.

Mine was a natural miscarriage by the way, which meant I had been spotting for a couple of weeks but with a couple of hours of significant painful bleeding and passing the sac on one day which I counted as CD1.

Also had a scan 4 days after the miscarriage, which like you showed mostly all gone but with some blood remaining. They were quite impressed with how it all looked for only being 4 days post miscarriage, so with yours sounding similar I would expect that you should come to a similar close.

I am sorry for your loss. I hope my experience helps you with some ideas of what to expect.

@catinthehat12 did you also experience ongoing brown discharge rather than bleeding? No need for a pad, just brown with stringy bits when wiping.
