Bridesmaid Dress Sizing for 22-23 Weeks

Hello,

I am a bridesmaid in a wedding and need to order a dress for the wedding. I'm 12 weeks now and will be almost 23 weeks at the wedding. This is the dress: www.azazie.com/products/azazie-aja-bridesmaid-dress.

Should I go off my measurements now and leave a little extra room? Or go a full size up? The next size up is 3 inches bigger in the waist which is really the only part of the dress that needs to be snug to keep the dress up. The dress does have some give so I'm thinking I go off my measurements how with a little extra space? Just not sure my boobs/rib cage will change in the next 10 weeks.

Anyone have any advice?

I would definitely go a full size up. Huge difference between 12 and 22 weeks, even if you aren’t particularly bumpy by that point. Much easier to take a dress in than to struggle all day in something too tight.

I’m a size 6 normally, 24 inch waist and for my wedding (at 34 weeks) I wore a size 16 dress and had it altered where required.

Is there a maternity alternative? My body is changing so much right now, I have a wedding to go to and thought I could just size up but it just doesn’t work the same 😂 I would maybe go 2 sizes up and alter (if you can reduce that much)

@buckingmad @Anon08 @GuckGuckDoose

Thanks for the responses! So confusing because many say I won’t really even be showing at 20-22 weeks so hard to commit. I guess better to order bigger and alter!

@NorthernLass213 everyone is different. I had zero fat, very slim etc so my bump showed at 16 weeks. I also found that my bra size went up from 32 to 36 pretty early on. I also carried baby really high until about 32 weeks so my main issue was getting stuff to zip up around my bra area because I had no gap from boob to bump.

For me that dress would not have worked because my bump was higher than the seam is on that dress, I had to go for something empire line (flowy immediately after my boobs).

I'm 22 weeks and would struggle with that dress: as pp said my bump starts right under my boobs and goes straight out so I couldn't handle that cross over detail. Also, most people don't just put on weight on their bump, though some do. I am normally a size 12, currently in size 16 or 18 underwear for context, and my boobs are about 3 cup sizes bigger. Having a girl which may be a factor - I've heard people say that the testosterone from a boy helps it all go on the bump (in the way men develop beer bellies) and with girls its more likely to also go on your hips etc. Honestly OP its very unpredictable, but I think if you go bigger you can always alter down, its a lot harder the other way.

I'd seriously think about style if you have any say or maybe go bigger again. That cross over could be very constricting.

Can you just hold off ordering till the last minute? Could you call the company and explain and ask them to ping you if stocks might be getting low?

Everyone is different, first babies you tend to show later. I was wearing loose summer dresses but in my normal size at 22 weeks however I'm aware I wasn't typical because the other 2 pregnant women in my office at the same time (all due within 3 weeks, top boss not happy!) were much bigger. I would consider 2 sizes or check the returns policy, how late can you leave ordering and if you ordered 2 could you return one nearer the time

shivawn · 20/07/2021 20:17

At 22/23 weeks I could still wear most of my pre-pregnancy dresses but not all of them. It's really hard to know, I would probably get the size up and then have it taken in closer to the time if needs be.

@NorthernLass213 I’m 18 weeks and started to show visibly some days last week. Some days I look pretty normal, but I looked bumpy enough that I had to wear maternity clothes, and people offered me chairs. I’d never have got into a “normal” dress for me…

It is tough because it’s all so personal but if I HAD to get it now, I’d go for the bigger size and have it taken in closer to the date if you’re not showing or it’s still too big. Baby should be pretty big by then!

Hey! Same boat here. Im due to be a Bridesmaid at 23 weeks too currently 19 weeks. I'm deffinatley showing and the lady has had to make alterations to the dress to allow it to fit me as both my bust side and wasit size have massively increased already. Unfortunately we brought the dresses last year before covid for a wedding that was then postponed a number of times so didn't have the luxury of ordering a dress size up. I'd have deffinatley gone for a bigger size :) even needed to have the back changed to a tie up rather than zip up for the top bit. (Two part dress)
