Hello wonderful people of MUMSNET!!!

A dad here, having his first child!!….. And couldn’t be more excited/petrified haha.

My wife at 33+1 had a PROM and is currently in hospital and 33+4. Baby is fine (a little dry, but fine) and mother is doing well! She’s on antibiotics and has had the steroid injections to help mature the babies lungs.

I know 33+4 isn’t incredibly early in today’s world with the amazing advances in medicine but I REALLY need your success stories and positive energy if possible!….. If there is anyone who has been through this please share your stories!

I just really want to give my wife and I some hope.

I had a PROM at 34 weeks and felt everything you and your wife are likely feeling right now. Such a shock for you both, especially with your first baby (mine was too).

My story is that with antibiotics and regular temperature testing to check for infection, baby stayed put for over two weeks. I went into labour spontaneously just before I was due to be induced. Had an amazing, calm birth and a healthy baby girl. She was quite severely jaundiced and we had an extended hospital stay, but nothing terrible.

The whole experience left me in awe of the medical professionals who looked after us. We were fantastically well cared for you and I hope your family will he too.

Wishing you, your wife and baby lots of luck. Try not to panic, they're both in good hands.

Not PROM but my niece was born at 33 weeks due to pre-eclampsia & she is now a strapping 11 year old so there is every reason to hope for a positive outcome x

I’ve PM’d you

I had a PROM at 34 weeks and baby was born the next day, so we didn't have quite enough time for the steroids to work fully.

It was a scary time but he was healthy. He ended up staying in hospital for a couple of weeks due to jaundice but he's now 7 with no lasting effects.

I didn’t have PROM but we had our twins at 29+4 after having steroids etc. It was a scary time however we had a relatively easy 7 weeks in hospital with them and now have 2 healthy, happy, cheeky almost 4 year olds.

After speaking to numerous NICU nurses, a baby born at 33 weeks plus is a doddle apparently 😀 you’re in the best place.

Goodluck x
