Travelling 8 weeks pregnant

Morning guys

I am just after some advice, thoughts or your experiences.

We have had a holiday booked to Corfu for about a year due to fly this week (booked obviously before pregnancy!).

I am now 8 weeks pregnant and it is a much longed for baby after 2 tough years. I just absolutely don't know whether to travel. Our fertility clinic said it was basically fine & to go and enjoy it & relax but the EPU were more cautious about things in case anything were to happen abroad.

I am now in 2 mins. Part of us thinks it would be good to get a week away relaxing after a stressful few months but part of us thinks it would be mad to go in case something happened while there. We have been told flying poses no risk but it's just the fear I think.

If any one is in a similar situation or has been then would love to hear from you.

Thanks Smile

Hi OP. I flew to Greece at 9 weeks pregnant e years ago with no issues at all, and I'm preparing to fly again in a fortnight when I'll be 12 weeks. Corfu is a big island and they'll have really good (English speaking) medical care available if you feel ill while on holiday. Trust me - enjoy your last child free holiday! It's never the same afterwards, even though they are soooo worth it.

Go, but make sure you’re covered for pregnancy on your health insurance as e111 doesn’t count anymore

Hi @Hopefulforhappytimes I’m five weeks and just got back from holiday! Luckily everything seemed fine BUT I’ll be honest, I did find it quite stressful for a number of reasons.

  1. The worry of something happening, after a couple of days I did settle in to it but I felt on very hyper alert & took me a while to relax
  2. Food was a bit of a worry and making sure everything was cooked properly or washed or even things like asking for non alcoholic cocktails/decaf coffee - I felt a bit on edge that it might have been lost in translation. Also even though ingredients were listed on the menu things would just turn up smothered in aioli which wasn’t listed and that was annoying as felt like I had no choice but to scrape it off & obvs you’re not supposed to have it at all. Also because of making sure things were washed/fresh I stayed away from good foods and basically ate beige all week which I’m super annoyed about!
  3. Maybe it’s just normal but I felt like being in the sun quite a lot exasperated my pregnancy symptoms I was done by 4pm and would pretty much lie down in the room until dinner (also could have been caused by all the beige foods)

Saying that, was lovely to be on a sun lounger and do nothing and sure the vitamin D did me a world of good! Also nice to have a last holiday just the two of us, now I’ve made it back in once piece I’m glad I went but I think it depends if you think you could fully relax? Sorry probs not helpful!

Xxx
