Week 5 cramps and constipation, is this normal?

Ladies please can you share with me your experiences about early pregnancy?

I am very new to this. Found out we were pregnant on Wednesday. Very happy surprise. Have PCOS and lost a bunch of weight, didn’t think it would happen so quickly.

Ofc trying not to get excited and getting worried with every cramp, random pain and trapped fart. Sorry if this is TMI but I have been so constipated this week! And even though it’s impossibly early, my stomach is impressively round. Why?!

I’m worried because I want this so bad that something will go wrong. Any advice for keeping a calm head?

Hi, first of all congratulations on your pregnancy!🎉

Cramps and constipation are completely normal from early on and throughout pregnancy!
I remember worrying a lot about the cramps (I'd had a previous mc) but honestly it's so common, and they happen throughout!

The constipation was awful but again, it is completely normal, it also adds to the stomach pains which doesn't help! I had constipation on and off throughout my full pregnancy aswell!

All normal. With my DD I got period cramps throughout, I remember at about 30-something weeks I has such achey period type cramps I genuinely thought my period was coming!

Belly roundness also expected too, hormonal changes make you bloat. I’m just over 4 weeks and my god the bloat at the moment is awful, my jeans are significantly tighter and after about an hour I’m unbuttoning them!

Thank you so much! I am a bundle of emotions. That is reassuring to hear. How did you cope with the anxiety of it all?

Woke up this morning with pain on my right hand side lower abdomen so called 111 and was seen by a doctor. She said she wasn’t worried at all because there is no bleeding, it’s not majorly painful and it’s my first pregnancy so the risk is very low but if the pain gets worse to call them.

I’m glad it’s not just me! I can’t do up my jeans already, at least I can justify buying some new clothes.

Omg thank God other people feel this way. I am only 3+4, only found out this week but my GOD the constipation! I literally look like I’m 4 months already!!

I'm nearly 12 weeks and I found from week 5-9 I was really constipated with awful cramps. All I could stomach was bread and stodgy foods so that didn't really help.
My advice would be to drink plenty of water and light exercise. Try something that has prunes in it if you can.

Congratulations x

Congrats @HopefulRose!

I’m currently 5 weeks pregnant with my first and have PCOS and Endo! Like you I am super anxious as have had period like cramps for about two weeks now! I keep waiting for something bad to happen. I’m also super bloated, tired, Boobs have doubled in size and are really sore. Don’t even get me started on the night time peeing!!

If you’re feeling constipated, two kiwis a day and some flax seed! Works a treat, although maybe just start with one and see how you go 😂

How many weeks are you?

HopefulRose · 10/08/2021 20:53

Sorry for the late reply, congratulations to you too!

How are your symptoms doing? I am still super bloated and boobs have also increased in size (they weren’t lying when they said they get sore!).

Constipation has got a bit better, probably because I know have terrible morning sickness so am eating less 😂.
