hello everyone, last night i went to the bathroom and noticed some bleeding and i panicked so i called up maternity and they asked me to go in just to checked. i’m rhesus negative and they told me i might need an anti-d but they weren’t sure because they wanted to take bloods just to check if i needed it first, they did an intimate exam on me and sent me home saying the bleeding was most probably irritated cervix. but today when i woke up i got a call saying i need to come in for the anti-d injection because my bloods come back saying i need it, does this mean the bleeding wasn’t from my cervix and it was something else? because i thought i would only need one if baby’s blood cells mixed with mine, so i’m overthinking now if it’s not just irritated cervix ): just hoping someone could explain, thank you x

I'm guessing they found out that your baby is Rh positive from blood tests. It doesn't mean that the bleed originated from anywhere else, they are most likely just being cautious to prevent you developing antibodies.
You can ask them to clarify when you go in for the anti-D though.

I'd definitely asking them to clarify when you go in. There's basically 2 possible scenarios:

  1. your FMH screen (if this was the bloods they took) showed that you need some anti-D because there's been some foetal cells in your blood (even if it's a really, really small amount).

  2. A midwife has checked the local guidance and it says you have to have anti-D to cover you in all bleeding scenarios after X weeks even if your FMH screen is clear of foetal cells, just to be safe.

I hope your midwife can clarify for you at your appointment and give you some reassurance.x
