Hey ladies, thought I'd start a thread for all us mamas due October 2021! Whether you're on your first or your tenth child, let's share our journey together!

My due date is officially 8th October and this is my second baby girl πŸ’œ My DD is 15 months old so I'm gonna have two under two.. god help me πŸ™‰
I'm actually booked in for an elective section this time (reason being is that I have low grade rectocele prolapse and I'm petrified that another vaginal birth will make it worse) my first labour was 4.5 hours from start of initial contractions to birthing her - textbook waterbirth on paper pretty much. I am however starting to reconsider my decision and go for my original plan of a homebirth. DH has just landed a new job only 15 mins away so it changes a lot. Any other ladies looking to try for a homebirth? I know for me personally it takes a lot of the strain off finding childcare, given how quickly I laboured first time round!

Cant wait to hear your stories and share these last few months of our pregnancies with each other! ❀

I think 30/31 weeks if when you're supposed to pack hospital bag x

summerhillgang · 26/08/2021 19:46

I had a raspberry milkshake today #milkshakediaries

mooloop · 26/08/2021 19:49

Oh really @summerhillgang @MyGrassIsBrowner?! I was thinking like 35 weeks!! πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚ I better start shopping for it then, I'm 31 weeks on Saturday 😱

MeadowHay · 26/08/2021 19:51

@mooloop I'd just have it ready by the time you are term, so all sorted by 37 weeks. With your first you can just sort everything in the week before then if you need to, I've just started doing mine earlier this time because it's much harder to do shopping and packing and laundry and things now with DD so I can't cram everything in at the end and have to do it bit by bit.

Ughh my nausea (which I get a lot, most days the last few weeks again - I had HG at its worst earlier in the pregnancy) has been especially bad this PM and I actually vomited earlier which is the first time in a few weeks. Feel sooo sick and meant to have friends coming to stay tomorrow eeek. I absolutely hate pregnancy Angry

I'm another who can't stop eating. The other thing is with my nausea eating is the only thing that really provides relief but then as soon as I've stopped eating it comes back so I just want to eat non stop!

@MyGrassIsBrowner awww me and DH love greyhounds probably our fave breed. His uncle used to have a gorgeous rescued ex-racer who was absolutely lovely. Heard him bark once ever when he was very old and arthritic and DH was trying to help him get on the sofa cos he was struggling but his hands were obviously too close to his rear end/he didn't like it or maybe had pain so did one small solitary bark. We were in shock as we'd never heard him bark before! He was such a sweetie. If we ever get a dog in the future it would likely be a greyhound tbh. We are both dog lovers but we just can't be bothered with the work atm and would struggle to afford one too. How's your pain today? Weirdly my PGP has actually been a bit better the last week or so tbh Confused.

NW2021 · 26/08/2021 20:36

Thanks @MeadowHay I went to Superdrug and bought 3 packs of the Lil let ones! I’ve got some of the big pad knickers but wanted some maternity pads as well.

@summerhillgang fab list! Thank you! I’ve screen shotted.

@Juicytoot287 I’m 31 weeks as well, thought it might be a bit early to pack but then decided I just want everything done now so that when I finish work (37 weeks) I don’t have to worry or leave the house! I plan on spending the start of maternity watching box sets and waiting for baby to arrive πŸ₯°

@mooloop this was happening to me too! Always the same boob but the past week the other one has started now! So strange πŸ˜‚

mooloop · 26/08/2021 20:55

@NW2021 that's a good point - I'm finishing work at 37w too and just want to totally chill out. I'm hoping to sort the house out, watch lots of Netflix and have some nice dog walks Grin

Another question for everyone - when to wash baby's clothes ready for them arriving?

Juicytoot287 · 26/08/2021 21:20

Yeah I will pack or at least my bits this week I think or next whilst off work. I am not on leave until 38 weeks. In a normal job I would have used annual leave to go early but obviously the only downside to teacher holidays is you do not get to pick when they are lol!

I have washed some before hand, I read it is best to as baby skin is sensitive so it gets off any chemicals and also gets them ready to be used to your product. Best to use non-bio which we do anyway. I started washing now because I wanted to start folding and putting away ready but it is really ongoing at the moment - got a couple of loads waiting for when I have enough bits to warrant a wash haha.

Juicytoot287 · 27/08/2021 13:57

Ladies you inspired me! I got myself some bit for a hospital bag so feeling a bit more prepared after my superdrug order. Got some more make up too and actually have done my face now -not that I am going anywhere just wanted to try it out and feel a bit human haha.

Happy Friday Everyone!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 27/08/2021 16:35

Haaaappy Friday ladies!!

So, been to see midwife this afternoon, had another blood test to check my iron levels so should find out my results for that on Monday. I've been referred for yet another growth scan on Wednesday but think the midwife was being over cautious myself. Apparently though baby is engaged and low.. I feel like knowing my luck I'll probably end up having a homebirth going on how quickly my last labour was, LOL. Guess I just gotta take each day as it comes now.
Hope you're all well ladies. X

mooloop · 28/08/2021 19:09

Happy weekend everyone!

How quick was your last labour @MyGrassIsBrowner? Hopefully all is well with the blood tests and scan!

I am shattered today. I feel like unless I stay at home all day, I end up needing a nap πŸ™ˆ but typically, at night I really can't sleep!

NW2021 · 28/08/2021 19:14

@mooloop I’m exactly the same! When I’m at work or out I could nap but as soon as I get to bed wide awake!

I’ve got a midwife appointment on Tuesday. I’ve lost track on how many you have or which one this is?! I’m guessing 31 week appointment? Seeing as I’ll be 31+5
Do you ladies know is it every 2 weeks you see the midwife now? Or 3 weeks?

Washed all the baby clothes today as we’ve had lovely weather. It’s crazy to think a little human will be here in 2 months!

mooloop · 28/08/2021 19:44

@NW2021 awww I'm excited to wash baby clothes! Still waiting for the drawers to arrive first though.

According to the NHS they're 31, 34, 36, 38, 40, 41 weeks for FTM, not sure which ones don't happen for subsequent babies. My next one is Thursday when I'll be 31+5. I saw my grandma today and she was surprised they weren't more frequent which I thought was interesting!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 28/08/2021 20:21

@mooloop My first labour was 4.5 hours from first contraction to delivery. Pushing stage was half an hour, it was all quite intense tbh. πŸ™ˆ

I'm sure MW appointments at this point are every 2 weeks, they should start going through your birth plans with you. X

OP posts:
mooloop · 28/08/2021 20:24

@MyGrassIsBrowner wow that must have been intense! Shock you read so much about how long labour can be, especially first babies, so it's crazy to think some people have such quick labours!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 28/08/2021 20:26

@mooloop I had two sweeps before that but me and DP DTD the day before my contractions kicked off and I still believe to this day that's what did it! πŸ˜‚

OP posts:
NW2021 · 28/08/2021 20:31

@mooloop Fab! That would make sense, I knew they were every 2 weeks at some point.

@MyGrassIsBrowner wow that is a fast one! That’s my dream! πŸ˜‚ dreading a long Labour but as it’s my first I have no idea what’ll happen!
Did you go over with your first?

mooloop · 28/08/2021 20:37

@MyGrassIsBrowner haha poor DH will be running away from me as D Day approaches πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ intrigued as @NW2021 has asked, whether baby was early/late/on time?

MyGrassIsBrowner · 28/08/2021 22:28

@NW2021 @mooloop Honestly I'm just crapping it now and hoping she stays put until my section!
I was 40+6 with my DD, so wasn't hugely overdue but that final week was a killer! Honestly though my advice is get on a birthing ball, plenty of walking (if you can) sex sex sex! And lots of nipple stimulation. And even if non of it works at least you tried hehe. I do hope you ladies have easy labours! But everything is so unpredictable πŸ™ˆ

OP posts:
MeadowHay · 28/08/2021 23:10

My labour with DD was about 30hrs from the beginning of my contractions, the last 11 or so hrs were in hospital. Two hours of pushing and nada so ventouse delivery. Absolutely grim tbh, hoping this time will be much faster and that I won't need assistance Sad. I went into labour at 39+6 and DD born on her date. I did antenatal expression of colostrum which is supposed to help induce labour so that may have helped me not to go overdue (or maybe just coincidence who knows?). Am anticipating going into labour a bit earlier this time tbh as people tend to be latest with their first I think? Or is that just not true really, not sure.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 28/08/2021 23:14

@MeadowHay Aww lovely that's so shit. Although my birth was textbook on paper, I did get 2nd degree tearing, graze on my labia (which was incredibly painful I wont lie) and I also have low grade rectocele too.
2nd babies do tend to come a lot faster though as your body has been through it all once before. X

OP posts:
NW2021 · 29/08/2021 09:25

@MyGrassIsBrowner that’ll be my plan in the final week! My OH is away from mid Sept to 3 days before my due date πŸ™ˆ so as soon as he’s back home I’ll be doing everything to get the baby to arrive! πŸ˜‚
When’s your section booked in for?

@MeadowHay I’ve heard labours are quicker after the first. My friends wasn’t hers was longer with her 2nd πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

mooloop · 29/08/2021 09:26

Aww @MeadowHay that does sound tough. Anecdotal of course, but my mum needed forceps with my brother (the eldest) but I just came right out, much easier the second time she said Grin my brother came on his due date and I came a day early!

I do feel anxious about the unknowns of birth. Trying not to worry about it too much as I know it's out of my control, but I am definitely a natural worrier so that's easier said than done!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 29/08/2021 09:47

@NW2021 you need to pounce on him as soon as he gets home haha!! πŸ˜‚
I'm booked in for 4th October, it's only 4 days before my section but some trusts wont book you in before 39 weeks unless it's medically necessary and tbh I'd rather cross my legs and hope she stays put than her potentially end up in NICU for being delivered too early. But then again I guess these little monkeys will make their own mind up when they're ready to enter the world!

@mooloop dont get too caught up in the 'what ifs' but it's good to have an idea of things you'd like or not like in your birth. So for me, I strictly said no forceps (personally do not agree with them and a lot of women are injured during birth when they're used) the thought of them just frightens me.
Obviously I would never want to put bubs in danger but I also wouldn't want her yanked out of me with some medieval contraption. shudders

OP posts:
summerhillgang · 29/08/2021 18:53

@MyGrassIsBrowner agree on the forceps. I've put in my birth plan that I'd rather move straight to c-section than try those. I was born with forceps and found out this weekend so was DH and his brother. MIL is here so been asking her about her birth experiences, which tbh just bummed me out.

I'm feeling a little bit down today. Can't really pinpoint why. We went out last night, and DH and MIL were drunk (not overly) and it was a nice night but it was left to me to sort taxi (so difficult to get one round here right now due to staff shortages) and was just a bit stressful. This morning both hungover, it's just hard work and I'm knackered myself, I can just about look after me right now rather than entertaining today and tomorrow as well. Got my Mum coming next weekend, but she's bringing premade food and only staying a night, so a bit better.

Hopefully I feel less miserable tomorrow! X

MyGrassIsBrowner · 29/08/2021 20:42

@summerhillgang the thing with forceps is they're generally used when women have had epidurals, it can slow down the labour and you're resigned to your back, which can actually hinder so much of the labour itself. (Im not saying this to frighten any of you ladies but it seems to be a running theme for a lot of women who have ended up with them being used during their delivery on mumsnet) my friend recently ended up with forceps and her baby was bruised badly and ended up in NICU being monitored for a few days. There is the option of venthouse which is much less traumatic than forceps. They're even just scary contraptions to look at.

So sorry you've had a shitty time of it hun. I know how you must be feeling though, I'd have been pissed off too if all that had been lumped on me. It's just not fair on you is it. I feel like that when people come to visit us (no longer living in my hometown anymore) I end up hosting and hobbling about. Never get asked if I want a hot drink etc. It's worse when baby is here, when my DD was born I had family coming over and I ended up hosting! Dont know why I do it cause it really upsets me. I've put my foot down this time though and told everybody we're having no visitors for the first week, I just can't be done with it this time and I'll be recooping after my section anyway. DP will have his head up his arse minding myself, DD and helping me with newborn so I think entertaining visitors will probably tip him over the edge. X
