Hey ladies, thought I'd start a thread for all us mamas due October 2021! Whether you're on your first or your tenth child, let's share our journey together!

My due date is officially 8th October and this is my second baby girl πŸ’œ My DD is 15 months old so I'm gonna have two under two.. god help me πŸ™‰
I'm actually booked in for an elective section this time (reason being is that I have low grade rectocele prolapse and I'm petrified that another vaginal birth will make it worse) my first labour was 4.5 hours from start of initial contractions to birthing her - textbook waterbirth on paper pretty much. I am however starting to reconsider my decision and go for my original plan of a homebirth. DH has just landed a new job only 15 mins away so it changes a lot. Any other ladies looking to try for a homebirth? I know for me personally it takes a lot of the strain off finding childcare, given how quickly I laboured first time round!

Cant wait to hear your stories and share these last few months of our pregnancies with each other! ❀

@MyGrassIsBrowner firstly congratulations! Hope it's all going well so far ☺️

I'm due on the 31st October with my first child, very excited! Had a fairly straightforward pregnancy so far, which I wasn't expecting as I had 3 losses prior to this pregnancy. Found out we are having a little boy and we're very excited! I'm leaning to towards giving birth on the midwife led unit if I can, not fussed about a water birth though. I've just read it's more relaxed than the delivery suite. I would LOVE a home birth but DP is not feeling it, he's a bit of a worrier at the best of times lol. Maybe one day, if this birth is straight forward.

Xx

MyGrassIsBrowner · 13/07/2021 20:13

@lockdownbabyx Hey hunnie, thank you! And a huge congratulations to you too! Eeek, first baby, super exciting!! πŸ’™
I was on an MLU with my DD and it was a lovely experience overall, no intervention, and just left to your own devices, it's all very chilled.
I would have been too scared to go for a homebirth for my first, but if you're close to the hospital it's definitely not an idea that shouldn't be written off if you'd like to try it! I've moved towns since my DD and my new hospital is literally a 3 minute drive away so that's one of the reasons I'd feel confident about a homebirth.
I dont feel too bad in myself at the moment, I do have Pelvic Girdle Pain fairly bad at the mo and I'm tired but that's due to running around after a 15 month old! πŸ˜† xx

@MyGrassIsBrowner @lockdownbabyx congratulations to you both! I'm pregnant with my second due on the 23rd of October , my first dd is now 5 so it's been a good 6 years since my last pregnancy, I was all set for a water birth with my ds , refused the inductions then my waters went and labour didn't start I ended up stuck on a bed with the drip and epidural .... c section was going to happen then she popped out At the last second ! I've thought about a home birth but I think I'd be more stressed incase anything did go wrong Im hoping to go into the mlu this time but I also have marginal placenta previa so if it doesn't budge I'll be booked in for c section, I know what u mean about home birth and childcare it was one of the things I thought would be great as I'm worrying that I'll go into labour early this time my husband works away during the week and is 5 hours away so I'm already panicking about that aswell , it even made me contemplate an induction (we're ivf so I can pick if I want to be induced on due date ) but I just don't think I can go through all the interventions unless it's necessary (I may change my mind my 9 month when I can barely move though and want the baby out thoughπŸ˜…) .

Peacefulspirit · 13/07/2021 21:27

Hi, I’m due number 5 the day after you! I’ve had 3 home births and loved them so feel free to ask any questions x

lockdownbabyx · 14/07/2021 10:10

@MyGrassIsBrowner thank you! Aw really, I do keep hearing great things about giving birth on MLU so that's what I'm hoping for but we shall see! I won't opt for home birth this tome, although my hospital is only 10 mins away, but I have no idea how I'm going to birth so better safe than sorry. Maybe next time πŸ˜‰.

Oh how are you getting on with PGP? Have you done anything that's helped? Ive been suffering with it for about a week too 😩. Mainly at night time when I try roll over in bed, can be so painful. Must be so hard with a 15 month old too so I feel for you! πŸ˜‚ xx

MyGrassIsBrowner · 14/07/2021 13:33

@queenie273646 Congratulations to you too chick 😊 also massive congrats on the IVF ❀ I cant even begin to fathom how complex that whole process is. I fell pregnant with both extremely quickly, too quickly to be honest it was a total shock. With this one I was on the pill 😳 madness! If you can go for an MLU I would definitely recommend it, but everything is so unpredictable isn't it. I'm booked in for a section on the 4th October but I think I'm going to go for the homebirth now.. I just fear I might go well overdue and end up being induced which is my major fear. I had my DD at 40+6 and they do say 2nd babies come earlier.. but we'll see if that's true in my case πŸ™ˆ I have an appointment with the midwife next week so I have a lot I need to go over her with.
How are you feeling this pregnancy? Has it been different to your last especially with such a large gap? X

@Peacefulspirit
Hey chick, firsty wow, congratulations... baby no.5 how the hell do you do it? I'm struggling 2nd time round with being pregnant, my first was a breeze but this time it's really taking its toll on my body.
Amazing that you've been able to have 3 homebirths.. that's incredible! Did you find your subsequent labours were faster? Also, when did you call the midwife over? Initial contractions? Waters breaking? Do they stay with you for the duration from that point and at what point would they transfer you to hospital if they thought things weren't progressing? I'm not bothered about hiring a pool I am quite happy with going for a dry landing that way I can experiment with different positions! How are you finding this pregnancy?

@lockdownbabyx
I would honestly take everything with a pinch of salt but it helps having a plan in mind! Everything can change so quickly and that's what I fear most! My PGP is horrific I wont lie. I keep meaning to order a pregnancy belt to use around the house especially when I need to pick my 15 month old up as she's not quite walking yet which is a bit of a nightmare for me atm.
Turning over in bed is just awful, I really have to psych myself up to do it πŸ˜‚ xx

@MyGrassIsBrowner we did ivf for our dd too so it wasn't too bad I pretty much remembered it all it was abit tougher on my body this time but both times it worked first time(male factor only) so we've been really lucky in that sense and have 5 little embryos left in the freezer if I'm brave enough for a third πŸ˜… I definitely think you should do a home birth ! Especially with you living so close to hospital! Your first birth sounds so quick and uncomplicated I think a home birth would work out great plus the second labour is even quicker my first labour from waters breaking to her coming out was a total of 37 hours πŸ˜‚ I'm sure your next dc won't run over too much and if you do go really over and need an induction at least it should work quickly my sil first labour was around 12 hours mlu no intervention and her second was induced at 39 weeks and after 2 hours she was in full blown labour and aloud back down to the mlu unit, I think some peoples bodies just labour easier from the get go. We're having a ds this time and the difference in pregnancies has been opposites with my first I could barely leave the bed for 9 months and with this one if I didn't have him kicking me and the bump I wouldn't know I was pregnant ! I wasn't sure I wanted any more kids after our first but 5 years later here I am I praise everyone who has kids close in age I don't think I would of coped well!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 15/07/2021 09:02

@queenie273646 Ahhh wow. That's incredible though. And even moreso that you've got more eggs on ice if you want to try again 😊
I think once I've had a good chat with the midwife next week I'll have a much better idea of what route I'm going to go down with the birth. The dream would be a nice quick labour again and to birth her in my home, but everything is so unpredictable πŸ™‰
Oh you poor thing, the nausea is real isn't it. With my DD I had sickness for around two weeks, with this one my sickness lasted about 6-7 weeks.. and I couldnt keep anything down. Worse as I was trying to engage with my DD on a daily basis and the mum guilt was real. I'm certainly nervous about having two so close in age in terms of the logistics of day to day life to begin with, but I've resigned myself to the fact that I will breast feed for the first couple of weeks, then onto formula. I did exactly the same with my DD and tbh I changed to formula because she wasn't getting enough from me, and that was me pumping as well.. I'm just not willing to put myself under that pressure now.
At least you can get your DD to help mummy with bubs! I'm sure she'll love being promoted to big sis 😍 x

queenie273646 · 15/07/2021 15:46

@MyGrassIsBrowner I'm hoping you get your home birth Midwife's really push for a home birth so I'm sure your midwife would love for you to have one and be supportive. It'll be lovely having two close in age to play together I always wished I could of had two close in age to occupy each other but as you say at least my dd will help out abit passing nappies etc. Had a 4d private scan today and my placenta has moved and only needs to move another 1cm and I'll be ok for a normal birth so by 32 weeks I'm hopeful it will of moved . I'm defiantly feeling encouraged to do the mlu this time hearing your story. I'm doing the same with feeding , I'm going to try and pump and also use formula my first was formula fed but after a week she was put on hydrolysed milk as she had a bad milk allergy.

MeadowHay · 15/07/2021 17:34

Hi ladies! I'm due my second 07/10 so really close to you @mygrassisbrowner ! However I suspect I will go a bit earlier, I went into labour last time at 39+6 and DD was born on her due date. She's just turned 3 so will be about 3 and a quarter when the baby comes. I'm unsure about birth - I'm down for an MLU birth atm but I am awaiting an appointment with a consultant to discuss the possibility of an ELCS because I have concerns about my pelvic floor, and anxiety/birth trauma. I'm undecided atm. I have PGP too which I didn't have at all with my first. Is anyone else huge this time compared to their first too? I look like I did at term with my DD already Blush.

summerhillgang · 15/07/2021 19:47

Hi ladies, I am due October 5 and am planning a home birth with my first baby. I live really close to the hospital (3 mins drive) and have an independent midwife so she'll head straight over. A lot of my friends think I am mad for wanting a home birth (so stopped talking about it with them), and maybe I am naive, but I am going to give it a go and if I have to transfer for whatever reason then so be it. It's hard to know how I'll handle the pain, but I'll have a Tens machine, gas and air, birthing pool and am just about to start a Hypnobirthing course. FiancΓ© really supportive and believes in me! Fairly straight forward pregnancy so far, am enjoying it, apart from the bout of flu in last week! Xx

MyGrassIsBrowner · 16/07/2021 09:19

@queenie273646 to be honest, I recently went into hospital for reduced movements (thankfully, everything was absolutely fine she was just being a lazy sod) the head midwife saw me and was looking through my notes, she said she literally couldn't fathom why I'm opting for a c-section and was very pro homebirth. Which is what is making me now question my decision.

I'm sure your placenta will move by the time you're due, you've got loads of time!! I hope you get your MLU birth, it's a nice experience because you can take it all at your own pace, have your own music etc. Much less clinical and the midwives will pretty much leave you to it unless you need their help. I've heard dairy allergies are the worst when it comes to feeding. I have a friend who's baby they reckon has a dairy allergy and her baby is constantly crying/fussing, poor girl is at her wits end with it.
I was very lucky with my DD. She had an apetite of a giant and slept like a tortoise haha. Even now at 15 months, she's an amazing sleeper. I'm bracing myself for this one to be the total opposite though πŸ˜… though I just intend to do everything the same as I did with my DD.

@MeadowHay
Welcome hunnie and congrats!! I'm suffering with PGP too, it's awful! And oh my god dont.. I'm absolutely massive atm and to be honest I almost look like I did full-term with my DD. I'm scared of how big I'm going to get. My DD was 8lb 6oz so god knows what this one might weigh 😳 I've attached a pic of my bump now! My existing stretch marks from my DD are sore and itchy and red now too 😩

@summerhillgang
Welcome hunnie! Congratulations, you're due a little big before me!
I also live 3 mins from my hospital too, which is swaying me more towards a homebirth! Hey, if you're confident there's no reason why you cant try for a homebirth. I think some midwives will try to sway you from one with it being your first but personally, I think in some cases hospitals just add to the overall stress of delivery and that's when issues can arise.
I wont lie, contractions are painful, my DD was back to back so my pain was off the scale, I got through it on pethidine alone but I do recall screaming for an epidural at one point and the midwife laughing at me cause I was mid crowning πŸ˜†
So much better when you've got a supportive partner. Mine is much the same, he just said give me a time and place and I'll be there πŸ˜† hes going to be in a new job by the time this one arrives and will be only 15 mins away which makes me a lot calmer about going for a homebirth especially if I was to go into labour earlier. His current job is 40 mins away and a lot of motorway driving and I think I'd have a breakdown lol. X

@MyGrassIsBrowner we're about the same size! I've been eating so much and bloody enjoying it tbh!

My mid wife is extremely supportive of home birth, and NHS mid wives didn't question it at all which I was surprised with it being my first and my age (38). I think everyone's become a lot more open minded to the benefits in the last year.

I think positioning is something that concerns me, what if it's breech, back to back etc. So will make a call on this but am trying to be conscious of how I sit / lay, and will do some acupuncture to encourage good position.

When's everyone going on maternity? I can't bloody wait to give up work x

MyGrassIsBrowner · 16/07/2021 13:26

@summerhillgang I've been indulging too. I get married May next year so will be going on a diet after this one so I'm enjoying what I like when I like haha!
That's fantastic that you have supportive midwives, I think there have been a massive increase in homebirths this last year and the midwives are probably enjoying it. It's obviously a lot less stressful for them than being in a hospital setting.
A lot of bouncing on a birthing ball helps, if you get to 40 weeks they'll offer you a sweep and check babies position at that point anyway, they can pretty much tell by an internal examination how favourable your cervix is and if you accept a sweep that can start labour off. I had two and it was the 2nd sweep that really got me going.

Im a SAHM which to be honest am incredibly lucky as I've had such a shit pregnancy so far, I'll be glad to have her out. My friend works in a pub and is 28 weeks and has been told to finish now. We're now being told that pregnant women in their 3rd trimesters at massively at risk if they catch Covid. Just more added stress πŸ˜’ xx

OP posts:
MeadowHay · 16/07/2021 13:49

Yes I reckon I'm about the same size too which is reassuring because I was tiny last time so feel huge this time in comparison and have been worrying about it!

My last day of work before mat leave is 09/09! I also can't wait. I WFH and my job is alright and my team are lovely but I just can't be bothered with it atm, I've been there for almost 4 yrs and just bored with it all now. Also we are reallyyy understaffed atm and so behind so it's a little stressful atm so can't wait to just pack it in. I don't think I will be going back as probably going to be at uni next September instead but plans could still change so we will see.

I've got to be honest I'm not worried about covid at all tbh, never have been. I'm young and don't have any health problems so the risk of anything significant happening has always been miniscule - granted it is a bit higher now I'm pregnant and in my third trimester (and am BAME too - but that's not understood well), but is still tiny. I have decided not to get vaccinated atm either I just don't feel comfortable with it whilst pregnant.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 16/07/2021 15:16

@MeadowHay Second babies tend to show much faster as your stomach muscles are already pre-stretched! I personally think I've got a heffer in here though as I am getting some kicks/punches that literally stop me in my tracks!

I couldn't focus on a job right now so take my hat off to you, it's bad enough me running around after my 15 month old and massive greyhound πŸ˜† by 9pm I'm honestly done in.

I'm scared of contracting Covid myself as I have family members who have died of it, and it was distressing. My sister contracted it several months ago (she's 23) and she still isn't 100% back to normal. Her taste and smell comes and goes as well. Frankly it's frightening. It's more dangerous for us as our lung capacity decreases in 3rd trimester. I aren't having the vaccine until I've given birth but I intend to be a hermit until my due date. X

Hello everyone πŸ™‚ I’m due my second child on 7th Oct, have a 16month old DD already. Having an ELCS following lots of complications which ultimately led to an emergency one last time. Also feeling/looking huge!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 16/07/2021 17:29

@Anynamenottakenplease Hey chick! Welcome and congrats. How are you feeling now? Sorry you had a rough ride of it first time round. I hope you get the nice calm planned section you would like this time. My DD is 15 months! How are you finding juggling her and being pregnant? I'll be honest I've had a faor few meltdowns so far lol! X

OP posts:
Anynamenottakenplease · 16/07/2021 17:35

@MyGrassIsBrowner well my husband is a SAHP so he deals with her (and her tantrums!) more than I do! I am struggling with things like lifting her in/out the cot as it gives me a stitch πŸ˜‚. I am starting to feel guilty that she won’t like having to share our attention with a new baby - do you feel that too? I’m hoping as she is so young that it will be β€˜normal’ very quickly

MyGrassIsBrowner · 16/07/2021 19:45

@Anynamenottakenplease Oh bless him haha! Somedays I'd happily go out to work and have my other half take over in the house πŸ˜†
I'm also struggling with lifting her atm too, she isn't walking yet which I dont know if it's a blessing or curse!

I do feel like that, but my DD is such a contented little girl and quite independant so I reckon as long as she's getting attention when she asks for it she really wont bat an eyelid πŸ˜† here's hoping anyway haha! X

MeadowHay · 16/07/2021 21:17

There are deffo days when I'd rather be at work than with my DD and today was one of those days - she screamed for 1hr 40 mins this afternoon non-stop. I wish she would grow out of it, the noise drives me insane. I really want a glass of wine for the stress of it Sad

My DD didn't walk til she was 16m. She was a bum shuffler before then which was super cute.

My DD is 3 and still in a cot bed with the sides up. She generally sleeps well so I don't want to change anything that might upset that, but I'm not sure if I will be able to lift her in and out til the end of my pregnancy...she weighs about 12kg.

Also sorry for your losses and to hear about your sister's struggles @MyGrassIsBrowner Flowers.

@Anynamenottakenplease we have the same due date!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 16/07/2021 21:28

@MeadowHay I feel you hunnie! I had a bit of a meltdown today too, DD is at that point were she is refusing food. I spend all my time prepping a meal for her to spit every. single. thing. OUT 😭
Honestly, if you want a glass of wine bloody have one! I have the odd glass and my midwife said it's perfectly fine in fact she said I dont blame you πŸ˜†

It's been a totally shitty year for us all. My DD was the best thing to come out of it tbh. I have spent much of 2020/2021 crying tbh.. I'm not sure I have any tears left lol!

My DD isn't chubby but my god she just weighs a tonne.. I feel you as I am struggling with putting her in and taking her out of the cot.
My DD is also a bum shuffler! They're super cute when they do aren't they haha!

Hey, I'm currently 25+2 with my first, a little boy πŸ’™ Starting to feel very real now and not really that long left in the grand scheme of things! Due 27th October.

Last week we ordered the pram so it's just starting to hit me that a baby is actually coming, especially as my bump has just started to bloom these last few weeks - I'm obsessed with it! 😍

We've got another thread somewhere for October babies if you fancy joining, I think it's called October babies part 3.

Hope everyone is keeping well Smile

summerhillgang · 16/07/2021 22:01

@MyGrassIsBrowner I'm getting married in next year also, in July 😊 so also will have weight to lose. I was hoping breast feeding could help but heard mixed reviews as to whether it does or not.

Yes health professionals have been positive about home birth but my friends less so, they think I am mad!

I am also planning on being SAHM for the foreseeable as would love siblings for this little one ❀️

I've been recovering from flu this week (even though I had the vaccine) - I tested negative for Covid twice but can't help thinking it was that. Really quite savage. I am absolutely shit scared of Covid now, I know about 10 people who have it now. I was dead against getting vaccinated during pregnancy but I think I am going to go just get it done, has anyone here been vaccinated whilst pregnant?
Xx

summerhillgang · 16/07/2021 22:09

@MeadowHay @MyGrassIsBrowner second the glass of wine when you need it!
