Heart palpitations

I'm 21 weeks pregnant & for the last week or so I've been having occasional heart palpitations. They're really strong & I sometimes get a headache when they happen. I know they can be normal in pregnancy but today they've really kicked up a notch & I'm having them about every half an hour.

I phoned my gp this afternoon & the receptionist said she'd get back to me but didn't. Has anyone else experienced this?

I’ve been having them from about 20 weeks I’m now 35 weeks. I get so many! I mean I can get about 10 in a minute… I’ve had a heart monitor for 24 hours & bloods & ECG. Everyone is happy and saying that all it normal - definitely tell your midwife and keep bugging your GP. It’s probably fine but reassurance helps xx

See GP. Lots of women get it. I'm under the care of cardiologists for pregnancy related palpitations. I go to a "pregnancy palpitations clinic" at a cardiology outpatient department. No drugs needed just monitoring and under obstetricians instead of midwives

@thingymaboob - how did you go about getting referred to a pregnancy palpitations clinic? Are you in the UK?

JackJack84 · 12/07/2021 20:42

@Sheisfee thank you so much this is very reassuring to know! @thingymaboob thank you I'll ring my GP tomorrow & see if I can speak to them, the receptionist didn't seem to understand why I was ringing!

I am on medication which requires me to have an ECG yearly but I didn't get one last year because of the pandemic. Probably best I get checked out just in case.

Hiya @JackJack84 and @Sheisfee. I am in the U.K.
In my first pregnancy I got referred by GP and had all tests etc. I collapsed at 30 weeks due to arrhythmia. I have a "right bundle branch block" which is not harmful normally (I found out when I was training to be a paramedic when we did ECGs on each other) but it does cause arrhythmia in my pregnancies.
In this second pregnancy I fainted at 5 weeks pregnant and because of my history of palpitations in first pregnancy and abnormal 12 lead ECG, I got referred by A & E straight to clinic.
