Preeclampsia at 16+4?

Had my 16wk midwife appointment today and there was two types of protein in my urine, so she’s sent it off to be tested for pre eclampsia. She said she thought it was unlikely to be so, but she wanted to check.
My BP is low (88/58) but I have had some terrible headaches and when I think about it, some flashing with my vision.

Has anyone else had this? I’m hoping it’s a UTI but isn’t that white blood cells?

I think it’s far more likely to be an infection or contamination of your urine sample. Pre eclampsia is characterised by high blood pressure (yours is v low) and typically occurs in the second half of pregnancy.

@Pentamix thanks. I was surprised when she said there was protein as I’ve had white blood cells before but never this. I didn’t think pre eclampsia started this early either! I guess I’ll see if i hear back this week.

Protein in your urine can be caused by dehydration, contamination, not eating enough, stress, loads of things so try not to worry. It's not easy I know, I'm a worrier and spent my whole 1st pregnancy worried about preeclampsia but all was well. The midwife will look after you.

Thank you @HalloHelloSmile

I had a call back today and the culture is correct and they’re a bit unsure, even the consultant so they’re putting me on antibiotics for a week incase there’s an underlying infection and I’ll see them next week to be sure.
I can’t fault their care at all. I was just perplexed as usually you don’t think or hear of pre eclampsia mentioned until 3rd trimester!
