Can't keep iron tablets down

Hi, wondering if anyone could help..

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and still can't keep iron tablets down. I was given them at 6 weeks pregnant.

GP tried me on a new anti sickness medication and it's worked, really well, but I'm still not 100% and just can't keep them down

I've text midwife and she said she doesn't know what to say, I'll have to go back to GP because they're important

I feel horrendously tired and breathless, I know I need them. But they make me vomit straight away Sad

Any advice?

You can get a liquid iron supplement called Spatone which you take in a drink. I used to take it in orange juice. Could that be an option? You would have to check if the iron content is high enough though. Holland and Barrett sell it.

Also ask for a different iron tablet. I couldn’t keep mine down and apparently it’s coo only associated with whatever the iron is mixed with (fumarate v sulphate). In the end I paid for spatone x2 per day

I took Active Iron - very gentle on stomach. But it's only 15 mg and so the GP advised me how much to take for my iron levels

Floradix and Spatone are both gentle iron which are easily digested but if you are at the point where you are breathless then they are unlikely to be enough. Maybe talk to your GP about the possibility of an infusion.
