When did you have your 20 week scan?

I had my 12 week scan today (all looking okay so far!), and while I was there I was given an appointment for my 20 week scan. The date I've been given means that I'll be 20 weeks and 6 days pregnant on the day of the scan.

I've read the literature, and this says that the scan is normally done any time between 18 weeks and 20 weeks and 6 days.

I'm a bit nervous about being right on the cut off date - especially with COVID and everything meaning that appointments sometimes get cancelled. I did query this with the receptionist today, and she told me that there are earlier appointments available but that they like to do the scan at 20+6 as this is the ideal time.

I know I should therefore just put it out of my head and stop worrying, but I still feel nervous about the date being so late. Can I ask how far along others were when they had their 20 week/anomaly scans?

Sorry for being neurotic, this will be my first baby and I'm feeling pretty anxious about anything and everything at the minute!

Mine will be at 20+2 - I though the dates were more important around the 12 week scans because of the screenings

DS1 20 weeks but had to come back at 22 weeks for a rescan as he was in a rubbish position so they couldn’t do the heart scan properly

Ds2 21 weeks but again needed a rescan the following week due to him being awkward and they couldn’t get the last spine check in

DD 20 weeks exactly but she played ball and moved after some jiggling around so they could do all the checks

I was 21 weeks but like you was a bit fidgety about it!

rsp123 · 12/07/2021 13:35

Hi, I was 21 + 5, nothing was said about it being too late 🙂

Garman · 12/07/2021 13:36

Mine was at 21+5 in my latest pregnancy.

Mine will be at 20+6 (just over a week to go). I think my trust would prefer to have me in sooner as I got sent a letter from PALs explaining that there is still a delay to seeing some patients and thanking my for my patience. I could be wrong though as I received it after my midwife appointment which was at 17 weeks instead of 16 but that was because she was on annual leave.

I’m really anxious about it. Not for the timing, as my understanding is that it isn’t too time critical for measurements at this stage. It’s just a really long time between my scans (my 12 week scan was actually 11+6, so it’s 9 weeks not the usual 8 between my scans) and my trust don’t listen to the heartbeat at the 16 week midwife appointment. It’s felt like a long time without knowing on what’s going on in there. I wish I’d booked a private scan for about 17 weeks. To deal with the wait, we’ve both booked the day of my scan off (I know work have to give me the appointment if I wanted) and if all is well with the scan, DH and I are going to go into town after and look at some baby things.

Mine is 21 weeks

Needingsupportplease · 12/07/2021 14:14

19+6

wjg65ka · 12/07/2021 14:26

I was 21+4. No idea why! I booked in literally as soon as i missed my period and had the positive test. Every scan I've had has been slightly delayed. I was over 13 weeks with my 12 week scan too

shangelawasrobbed · 12/07/2021 14:43

Ahh okay, it seems pretty normal to have the scan after 20 weeks then. That's reassuring!

Sorry for bothering you all, I was just worried that it might cause a problem, but obviously not! Smile

Mine was 20+1

JSP21 · 12/07/2021 18:03

I had mine last week at 20+6 and all was fine with the date :)

shivawn · 12/07/2021 18:25

Mine was at exactly 21 weeks. Baby wasn't cooperating though so we had to go back at 23 weeks for a rescan.

stormelf · 12/07/2021 18:58

I'm worried now that mine is booked too early. It's for exactly 19 weeks.

shangelawasrobbed · 12/07/2021 22:09

@stormelf

I'm worried now that mine is booked too early. It's for exactly 19 weeks.
From what other people are saying, though, it sounds like they'll call you back for a further scan if they can't see what they need to see. So I don't think you need to worry xx

(Although I appreciate that that's a bit rich coming from someone who only a few hours ago was worrying about the scan date too! I think it's normal to worry about every little thing, but 99% of the time we're probably worrying for nothing.)
