Pregnancy and exercise

I’m 22 weeks and really really missing exercise! I was running half marathon distance quite regularly and certain about 40km a week in total but I’ve struggled more and more since getting pregnant and last week I think will be my last run until the baby is here. I’m quite breathless which I can manage but then I started getting what felt like a stitch all over my bump and it was really uncomfortable and felt a bit scary so I’m guessing that’s running done for now.

I’ve been swimming, which I like, but the current fucking palaver of trying to book a slot is not making it easy given that I work full time and have a 4 year old and the swimming pool is open reduced hours so there’s nothing I can get to before work or after DS’ bedtime.

I suppose I’m after some ideas of what I could try! I’m still getting my steps in as I walk to work and usually jog on the spot in the kitchen for 25 mins before work but it’s not very exciting. I don’t mind yoga but don’t really feel like it’s a workout so wouldn’t want to just do that.

Any thoughts gratefully received!

Have a look on YouTube, loads of different kinds of prenatal exercise in there.

Depends what you like to do but YouTube has oodles of home workouts you can do.

I still powerlift despite having spd, we have a home gym set up so I can always work it around the kids. I had quite a bit of time off as I was unwell but got back in this week after finishing my meds and feel so much better for it (I'm 34+4 now). Had to reduce the weight and volume as I've got bigger but trying to maintain as much strength as possible without running myself in to the ground with all the other stuff that needs doing. Got 5 kids and a dog so I'm pretty active in general.

I did RWL online workouts until a week or so ago (35 weeks now and having a section - only reason I’ve stopped is in case I make myself go into labour before it). You can click on the trimester you’re in on there and there’s sooo many workouts. I would never have done them not pregnant but have actually loved it. The classes with Rachel were the best and you actually felt like you were working out with her. I’ve cancelled my membership but I’m going to rejoin after baby is here. Will be so easy to get a workout in while he naps

Are there any pregnancy fitness classes in your area? Our area has a few and some of them are still online and in the evenings, I do one once a week from home whilst my DH has tea with DD and entertains her for an hour so it fits in nicely. It's a mixture of cardio and strength based and you can use whatever weights you want to make it more or less challenging etc there are a few things like that round here, might be worth looking into?
