9 weeks pregnant and blood when wiping

Hi, I am currently 9 weeks pregnant. For the last 3 days I have been having light brown discharge when wiping after toilet. But today after going to toilet earlier I had some bright red blood after wiping. I am not having any other symptoms like cramping or anything. I did go for a scan 2 days ago and there was a healthy baby with a 176bpm heartbeat. So everything looked good. I have had 2 healthy pregnancies previously and then one missed miscarriage in august last year, so feeling really nervous as never had any discharge or bleeding in previous pregnancies. I have attached a pic of bleeding for info. Should I be worried? Should I do anything or go see someone? Thanks for advice or help.

@KEG01
So sorry your going through this, did not want to read and run I have had 4 miscarriages and 1 cp and anytime I have seen blood it's been the worst outcome but its not alway bad, have everything crossed that is just the placenta attaching itself as they say that could be around that many weeks 💚

Hi! I’ve had had bleeding with both pregnancies around the 6-7 week mark. One was fine, one was a mc.
I would say it’s really hard to tell. Sometimes that bright red color can be serious cause for alarm, but honestly there’s not much a doctor can do to prevent it. It could be something like placenta attaching or an SCH as well.
I know it’s really hard not to worry…. But try and watch some movies you like, relax, etc. Whatever happens, the next few days will be stressful, so just take good care of yourself.
You can call back the doctor, and they will probably just tell you to monitor the bleeding, and to call back if it gets heavier or you experience cramping.

Wishing you the best possible outcome! I

I had some bleeding early pregnancy it turned out to be implantation but was enough to make me think it was a period.

Try rest up

KEG01 · 10/07/2021 17:36

Thank you @Babyghirl… I haven’t had it in any of my previous pregnancies…not even the one I miscarried as it was a missed miscarriage. So seeing any blood feels alarming! I will keep you posted x

Thank you @ChaiTRex. Really appreciate you sharing your experiences and kind words. 🤞 it is a positive outcome. As you say you just panic when seeing it but I know that if something is wrong there isn’t anything that can help. X

@KEG01
Have everything crossed for you that it's a positive outcome, my first 3 losses it was brown blood then turned red people doctors in hospital an all told me it's brown it old blood nothing to worry about but when I look back I wish they could of prepared me for the worst bck then if it was to happen and it did my 4th started just dark red, as another poster said there really nothing anybody can do at this stage phone your epu and they will get u in again but try to take it easy and stay positive but prepare for the worst if that makes sense 💚

KEG01 · 10/07/2021 18:16

Sorry that you had to go through all of that 😔 so unfair! Thank you…appreciate the support. Will contact epu to see what they say. X

I have been bleeding throughout this pregnancy (since week 3) like you bright red, like a period. I had a scan at six weeks and saw the heartbeat. I’ve called the EPU a few times since but they always tell me not to worry unless it gets heavier or I start getting some pain.

Crazysheep · 10/07/2021 20:55

I bled like this with DS all the way through. We have an album of scan pictures I was there that often. Iv also had a MC and although the bleeding was bright red both times it was very different with a MC. Pain, cramping and blood and clots gushing. Possibly tmi but had you had sex or strained on the toilet OP? That's when I used to bleed most Blush DS is almost a teenager now.

KEG01 · 11/07/2021 07:02

Thank you @JLL1990. How many weeks are you now? Did they recommend that you should rest or just carry on as normal?

Thank you @Crazysheep. that is very reassuring to hear…thank you for sharing. We hadn’t had sex or strained on toilet when the bright red blood came out. I had had a transvaginal scan 2 days before though which I am wondering might have caused some irritation? Since the bright red blood yesterday I haven’t had more bright red blood but have had brown and light pink discharge Shock

Hi @KEG01,

According to the sonography/rad at my the scan I had at six weeks I’m 9+4. According to the midwives I’m 10+5. Still bleeding. I asked if I should stop anything as it always seemed worse after my daily walks, but was told to carry on as normal, just to avoid heavy lifting. I guess they’d be concerned about a DVT if I rested.

And yes a TV uss is likely to cause bleeding.

How are you getting on now? Xx

MySocalledLoaf · 11/07/2021 08:59

You can have a lot more bleeding than that for weeks and still have a good outcome (I did twice). Unfortunately it’s impossible to tell from bleeding alone. Good luck.

KEG01 · 11/07/2021 10:21

Makes sense on not resting and carrying on as usual. I think I might go mad anyway if I had to lie down all day! Grin
I haven’t had any more bright red blood as yet but having brown and light pink

Sorry you've having this it's stressful seeing blood. I had some spotting at 7 weeks, completely panicked and booked a private scan that day. It was a haematoma, they could see a cubic cm of blood in the womb. Often it's reabsorbed, but the sonographer said it can be more common at times when the placenta is forming (I think 9 weeks is when it basically takes over isn't it?)
If you can get a private scan it might be reassuring- mine was £70 and they fitted me in same day

PandemicPalava · 12/07/2021 13:15

I had brown pink and fresh red for a week at nine weeks. I took a week off work as I was so upset but it turned out okay. Fingers crossed for you.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/07/2021 13:18

It doesn't always have a bad outcome, I bled loads and have a healthy adult son now. You need to get checked out though, best of luck xxx

KEG01 · 12/07/2021 13:27

Thank you @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7…. I am due to go for a scan next Monday when I am 10 + 2 as having the Harmony test done. So holding out for that. Hopefully it is positive as that is when I found out I had had a missed miscarriage this time a year ago Confused

@KEG01 oh that's brilliant you have one booked in. It's worse after miscarriage, everything feels so much scarier I've found. I haven't really enjoyed this pregnancy, I've been so anxious about everything. Good luck for the Harmony.
