Uti in early pregnancy

I got a surprise bfp on Tuesday so it’s very early days. I think I have a uti - I feel like I need a wee a lot and not much comes out. Lying in bed now and it’s painful.
NHS website says to contact the GP but mine is closed until Monday. Anything else I can do in the meantime?

Congratulations on your BFP! You need to call 111 and get antibiotics as UTIs in pregnancy can cause miscarriages. I had them constantly when I was pregnant, I know first hand how awful they are but the antibiotics kick in pretty quickly. Hope you feel better soon.

Yes call 111. I had a UTI at 6 weeks and my GP’s website directed me to 111 when I said on the online form I was pregnant. They may still say wait until Monday though, as ultimately 111 just referred me back to the GP because I wasn’t having very alarming symptoms like back pain or blood in the urine. So I guess they figured it wasn’t urgent yet and getting a GP appointment in the usual way would be fine. (It was too - had a week of antiobiotics and saw a healthy bean with a heartbeat a few days after that).

You have all my sympathy - I hate UTIs! The ABs will clear it up ASAP though.

Thanks so much. I have actually had light bleeding this morning but the pain seems to have gone along with the desperate urge to wee! I will see how things are in an hour and call 111.

Out of hours is what you need as a uti can go into your kidneys easily when pregnant.

I'd contact them anyway if you've had bleeding. Explain all of the symptoms, even the ones which have gone. They should refer you to EPU.
