Exhausted in second trimester

I am starting to worry a little.I am currently in my second trimester and all I want to do is lay down.I don't actually sleep but just lay there for hours. My iron levels are fine and I don't actually feel physically sick just lethargic. Isn't second trimester meant to be the time when your energy comes back?

Are you getting enough sleep? Eating well? Drinking plenty of water? Pregnancy is tiring- you are growing a whole new person after all 😊

I swear the second trimester glow up is a myth. I’ve been permanently exhausted throughout this pregnancy. Turns out growing a human takes a lot of energy! Don’t beat yourself up about it - some of us just don’t get more energetic and need quiet time (even if it feels like all the time!).

Justlikethewhitewingeddove · 09/07/2021 18:59

I’ve felt like that in every trimester , think some women just feel very very tired when they’re pregnant .

I'm in 2nd trimester now and I'm totally done in. Solidarity Daffodil

Im in my second trimester and i feel knackered!
The 1st trimester was awful as i had HG which has eased with medication (thank god) but feeling exhausted hasnt improved.
Im not collapsing on the sofa at 7pm but i have no energy and have to physically push myself to do anything remotely active.
I thought the 2nd trimesrer was supposed to be your time to glow and feel fab?!

Nah, loads of people are exhausted right through pregnancy am sorry to say. I was with my first and funnily enough I feel slightly less bad this time with my second despite a lot more demands on me and more physical activity - I think exercise and keeping busy can actually help your energy levels sometimes. So my advice would be get as much rest as possible and prioritise sleep but also ensure you're getting a good amount of physical activity in even if you don't feel like it - guideline is 150 mins a week of moderate intensity and that's the same for pregnant women. This will end up making you feel better and should help you sleep better and improve stamina too.

I don’t feel AS knackered in 2nd trimester as I did in the first but still pretty knackered 🤣 I’m going to bed at about 8pm once or twice a week which helps me catch up - rock n roll 🙈

Anon08 · 09/07/2021 19:21

I’m less exhausted than in T1 but I’ve just woken up after a 2hr nap 😂 Rock and roll.

Second trimester of second pregnancy and I feel exactly the same and was like this with my first as well. It's as if someone has given me a sedative, I can barely function past about 3pm. It's awful, I'd completely forgotten how debilitating it is. Solidarity.

I can also confirm that pregnancy fatigue is worse than newborn/sleepless fatigue, when at least when you wake up you feel somewhat restored.

Thank you for reassuring everyone. Everyone around me have had these morning sickness free ,glowing pregnancies and I'm here in week 19 ...just finished being sick

Ah you have my sympathies. I'm in week 27 and had HG with both my pregnancies which gradually fades off. The last time I vomited was about 2 weeks ago and my nausea has mostly been gone over the last week so hoping it's on its way out now. I hate pregnancy, it's a means to an end for me and not something I enjoy at all. Making the most of my time with my DD before baby arrives but otherwise cannot wait for pregnancy to be over!
zeromango · 09/07/2021 20:12

OMG ME!! You're not alone! I'm bloody knackered all the time, it's horrible. 15 weeks on Monday and my boobs still hurt, still feel sick (after a nice break between 10 and 13 weeks!) Where the hell is the second trimester glow?! Cos I sure as hell can't find it Grin

Timeforabiscuit · 09/07/2021 22:02

There's tired, and then there is parasite leeching all the marrow from your bones tired!

Get all the rest you can, but check in with your midwife - unfortunately crappy diet does compound matters as the baby takes the top slice of everything, so will be worthwhile making sure your diet is well balanced nutrient wise.

Chanel05 · 09/07/2021 22:03

Feeling for you! I didn't feel more energised until 18 weeks.
