Cavum issues?

Has anyone been referred to fetal medicine for an enlarged Cavum in the brain.

Nothing was picked up at my 20 week scan but I had a growth scan earlier this week and the sonographer said the Cavum looked bigger than normal.
I saw my consultant after and she said it does vary in size and they don't measure it for that reason but they want me to be seen by fetal medicine anyway.
I have the scan on Monday, my anxiety is through the roof as I've no idea what it could mean.

I've googled (I know I shouldn't) but there is virtually nothing on there....I assume because it's not measured 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hello, so sorry to hear you're feeling so anxious. Similar happened to us but at our anomaly scan. We were told his cavum was large and looked very defined.

We were referred to fetal medicine for another scan the following week where it was explained by the consultant that they focus more on the shape of the cavum when looking for an issue as opposed to the size, as like you said, size can vary. But it was also mentioned that differences in the size and even the shape of the cavum don't necessarily mean there is an issue.
Sorry I don't have much on the details of what it can mean, I'm sure she gave more information but the entirety of the appointment was an anxious blur so I was struggling to retain everything that was being said!
But after the week of anxiety we were told everything was absolutely fine.

I hope this helps a little bit, I know it is a horrible feeling waiting for these kinds of things. Have my fingers crossed for you that everything goes well Smile

@BecHay1 thank you so much for replying.
They obviously checked it was there at the 20 week scan and it wasn't picked up then & the sonographer looked at the pics in comparison and said it looked larger there too so who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hopefully all will be ok 🤞🏻🤞🏻
