scan on due date?

Just had some late pregnancy scans scheduled, and the final one is on my due date. Is that normal? Showing they're taking really good care of me? Or likely the receptionist made a mistake?

My bad, re-read the notes from the person who scanned me and she advised another scan at 40 weeks. As well as 32 and 36. Not that anything is wrong, they're just being careful because I'm old. And because my hospital is ace.

I have one scheduled 2 days before my due date which made me laugh given that I’ve never made it to a due date before! 🙈😂

Narwhalsh · 09/07/2021 15:28

I had additional monitoring with my second after my due date-but only to the tune of a scan at 41 weeks to check placenta.

Can I ask how old you are? I’m having my third now at 37 and wondering what additional monitoring they may put in place towards the end (previous pregnancies have only been the standard 12 and 20 week scans and then the one at 41 weeks)

Ameteurmum · 09/07/2021 16:27

@Narwhalsh 34, also having my third but I have low pap a and a problematic thyroid so I have to have extra scans apparently. I don’t know anything about it other than a letter sent to me with the appointments on - will see the consultant on the 20th so hopefully she can make it make sense. I was low risk with the last two so have never had so much attention before!

Ameteurmum · 09/07/2021 16:27

Oh wait was that aimed at the OP?! Shouldn’t skim read 🙈

Soverymuchfruit · 09/07/2021 17:55

@Narwhalsh I'm 40, will be 41 when I deliver, and this is my first. No other risk factors afaik but those two seem to be enough for my hospital to be keeping a v close eye.

Maybe walking to the hospital and back will be just what I need at 40 weeks!

@Narwhalsh I’m 38 (will be 39 when I have baby), and I’ve been treated no different this pregnancy than I was when I was pregnant at 27.

I’m nearly 30 weeks now and only just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes for which I will be given extra growth scans. But otherwise I’ve had just the standard nhs scans.

Chelyanne · 09/07/2021 18:20

@Narwhalsh unless there are complications or you are classed high risk due to a previous pregnancy issue you'll most likely just have the standard scans

I'm 37 and having growth scans but that's due to a previous large baby (largest was 4.88kg). This one is also measuring big.

Narwhalsh · 09/07/2021 20:31

@Ameteurmum haha happy to hear everyone’s experiences! Grin

@Soverymuchfruit take nice big strides, maybe a few lunges and sideways steps!!! Wink

@Chelyanne my last was 4.3kg but I don’t think that flags as particularly worrisome!

Soverymuchfruit · 14/07/2021 19:05

@Narwhalsh lol the walk to the hospital is along the canal so I might take it easy on the sideways steps!!
