Iron tablets - please advise :/

I have a high risk pregnancy, one kidney, low papp a, cervical ectropion and polyp, last week diagnosed with GD and low iron.
My question is that when I was in hospital at 23 weeks they said I needed iron tablets and when I ran out to get more from the dr. They didn't tell me when to stop or anything. My bloods at 28 weeks show no change in my iron levels and mw said yday she will check again soon, did they say how long you are on them for and I said no just to call Dr as I did.
I've not been slack but I've only really taken 2 a day and missed a week or so but every other day took 2. That makes about 7-8ish weeks as I'm now 31 weeks pregnant.
Does anyone know if this is safe ? I don't think i thought about it just that I'd been told to do it but now I'm an anxious mess :( has anyone been on them for a long time? Please reassure me or let me know if I haven't done this right. :(

I don't think I fully understand your post (sorry) but if you're asking will being on iron tablets for 7-8 weeks cause harm, no it won't. If you aren't clear what you should be taking and when I would arrange a phonecall with your GP.

Thank you, sorry it was unclear. Rambling a little. Yes I was asking on the length of time taking them.
Thank you for your help.

I've been on iron tablets for 3 months now. Iron levels still low but slowly picking up. I don't think you need to worry about being on them for too long- if that is what you were asking!

Thank you, reassuring that you have been on them too. Yes that's what I'm asking. Sorry its been a bit of a week, getting used to the GD and worrying about covid, I'm just rambling!

Vitamin C helps with the absorption of iron, so try either eating oranges or taking vit C tabs too.

I was taking them with fresh orange, then found out had GD and can't anymore x

Don't worry, so sorry you've been diagnosed with GD. Hope you get the iron sorted soon!

I was on prescribed iron tablets for the whole of the third trimester - perfectly safe 😊

I have been on prescribed iron since about 8 wks and am now 31 weeks. Your body will get rid of any iron that you don't need so don't worry it won't cause any harm. It's very common to be prescribed in pregnancy
