I feel like I can’t cope. I had unexplained problems conceiving after my DS, then an ectopic in January that ruptured meaning I lost a tube. Amazingly we fell pregnant again but due to a previous LLETZ I was sent for a cervical length scan and it’s just 19mm at 16 weeks, well below the 25mm threshold for concern.

Doctor said that there was no funnelling and because of this they had to weigh the risks of a stitch carefully against the benefits. Her recommendation was wait and review in a week. I wasn’t happy to do nothing so she prescribed progesterone pessaries. I’ll see the senior consultant next week.

Feel just awful. Totally overwhelmed and scared. I’ve been dreading bad news from the beginning of this pregnancy after my experience in January and this has really hit me hard.

@ActonBell
You poor thing x
My mum had what you need (a stitch) I order to go full term for myself and my brother.
I don't understand why you need to wait a week. What will happen over the next week to benefit from? Xx

Please try not to worry and try and rest as much as you can before your next appointment. The most important thing is that you're being monitored and there's still plenty of cervix there for them to work with if they decide to give you a stitch.

I had a stitch on my last pregnancy after a previous issue and had it done at 14 weeks and out at 32 weeks. I had my daughter at 36 weeks because she stopped growing but I'm so glad I got the stitch because it got me that far.

Ask your doctor what the risks are and if they outweigh the benefits of peace of mind considering your LLETZ. I hope everything goes well for you and I'm happy to answer questions about the stitch if you have any

Hang in there, @ActonBell!
Try and stay positive as hard as it is..! Pregnancy is such a scary, risky time, lots of people don't realise. Wishing you all the best xx

So from what I understand there’s a risk of infection and your waters going from the stitch procedure itself. I don’t know what the percentage risks are though and from what I can see the percentage risk of preterm birth with that cervical length is quite high.

I think they wanted to wait a week because there is no funnelling (so no sign cervix is preparing to open) and then they can take a second measurement and compare.

I don’t understand why they didn’t go for the progesterone pessaries straight away as they seem low risk. I didn’t have to push very hard to get those but I did have to ask about all the options.

The pessaries might help in the next week and improve the measurement. But, yeah, I don’t know quite why we’re waiting.

@ActonBell
Well if my mum was here, she'd be telling you to not overdo it physically or walk far until a decision has been made. Good luck! X
