Internal scan

Hi all hoping you can help. I’m about 4 weeks and 5 days. I had an internal scan today to rule out ectopic because of my last miscarriage.

The sonographer kept saying she couldn’t see the yolk sac so I’d have to get blood tests done. She did say she could see what sounded like her saying the cystation (no idea if that’s what she meant) measuring about 4 weeks 5 days in the right place and my line was very thick.

I kept trying to ask questions but she sort of rushed me out.

Should they have seen the yolk sac at this stage? I appreciate its very early for a scan, but I’m all over the place after my last miscarriage.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Not necessarily. Everything is so small at that stage it can be very difficult to see. Another couple of weeks and it will be clearer.

The blood test will give a good indication of your hormone levels which will help complete the picture. They will likely do two blood tests to check the difference between to ensure everything is doubling as it should.

Pretty sure it's normal for a yolk sac not to be visible until at least 5 weeks so you may just have been a few days too early.

She was probably saying gestation, so it sounds promising. Have u got to go back in a few weeks for another scan?

Chelyanne · 06/07/2021 15:56

You can't see much before 5 weeks.
Have they offered you any follow up scans or just your dating one?

BAIL08 · 06/07/2021 15:56

Thanks all. I’m such a bag of nerves atm because of what happened the last time.

@DaisyChainsForever I had actually booked an early scan for next week Wednesday privately as I wasn’t sure if the NHS would scan me earlier, but now they have.

Really hoping this has a positive outcome for a change.

@Chelyanne they’ve not offered a follow up one. I think they want to see what my bloods do first

I had an internal scan done a couple of weeks ago. By my dates I was 6 weeks however when they performed the internal scan they could only see a sac and no yolk, so I was then filled with the probability of an ectopic or early miscarriage.
In my heart I just felt it was probably too early....
Low and behold I was referred to our local early pregnancy unit for further testing. They performed another internal scan and managed to find a heartbeat only 48hours later and she confirmed that I appeared to be more along 5 weeks which would of explained why it was so difficult to locate much.
The sonographer said that they have so many women coming in scared that nothing was found when having an early private scan and its just a case of it being far too early in the pregnancy.

I hope this feels you with some little reassurance x

Fingers crossed for you. I had a miscarriage, then a baby, then 3 more miscarriages, followed by a baby. There was no reason/explanation for any of it and they all happened at differing gestations.
Try and keep busy while ur waiting for the results, easier said than done i know.

I just had my HCG results back and in just under 48 hours they’ve only gone from 2440 to 3153. Feeling like this is not good new…

Anyone had anything similar?
