Did you give birth earlier with a heavy baby? (Possible GD)

Hi all.

I know that scans aren't the most reliable for baby sizes. Yesterday I had a scan due to some aches and pains I was having and they found that baby was measuring at 6lbs already and I'm only 33+5, she's my 2nd baby.

I'm going in for some tests today to see if it's because I have gestational diabetes.

Anyone had any experience with this? Did you give birth early? Were you induced? Did you have to have a section?

Just being nosey so I can scope out what to expect! X

DC1 was 10lb3oz. The glucose tolerance test showed I didn’t have gestational diabetes and he arrived naturally (no induction) on his due date.

It was honestly a textbook labour and waterbirth Smile

Good luck!

I had GD and was induced at 39 weeks. Interestingly dd weighed under 6 pounds.

My son was showing big from about 30 weeks. I was tested but didn't have GD. He came at 38+5 and was 8.5lbs. I had to have a section due to failure to progress.
They had made an appointment for at 39weeks to discuss options including early induction due to his size.

I think I commented on another of your posts.
Only bigger babies I've had early were our twins but it was always the plan to not let them go beyond 38wk. Born via elcs bang on 38wk as breech & transverse weighing 8lb 5oz & 8lb 11oz. Our singletons that were big were spontaneous labours and both natural unassisted deliveries with g&a. 2nd 10lb 12oz, 6 days labour (from 1cm) but 2hr 19mins after waters broken with 14mins pushing. 3rd 9lb 10oz, 2 days labour just 11 mins after waters broken with just a few pushes (she was back to back so tore). Our very average 7lb 7oz 1st was induced at 39+3 born 39+6 (7hr 38 after waters broken), had epidural and needed intervention due to fetal distress.
No GD in any pregnancy, this little one was on 97th centile at 31+6 (34wk now).

You will be fine whatever happens.
I remember being pretty terrified I wouldn't be able to get our 2nd out when they told me how big he was on scans but did pretty well. All the staff wanted to come see my little giant on the ward lol.

My baby was pegged as "big for gestational age" but GD was ruled out so not sure why.

I was induced at 41 weeks as I'd had no natural signs of labour starting. DS was 9lb 7oz

I had GD was told DS was big, he was 7'9 so average really

My DS was nearly 11bs and five days early after three increasingly rummaging sweeps (the last one did it). I had him privately and the nhs only do two I think? He was actually bigger and heavier than the previous scans showed. But it was fine and normal textbook birth wjth walking epidural. Slightly slower than my first when I tore. I didn't have a graze wjth him and it was a really positive experience. Amazing midwife really managed the pushing so that it was slow and didn't cause any problems like before when my other son came flying out.

StuckInABox · 06/07/2021 10:16

My GD baby is 8 weeks old, I was induced at 38 weeks because I was on insulin but he was only 7lb 2oz.
My previous 2 were induced at 42 weeks 9lb 2 and 10lb 8 but no one really picked up that they were big.

jacksmamx · 06/07/2021 10:30

God I don't think I could cope going over especially with a big baby 😩 she's already crippling me!!

Oh well, suppose it's just a case of waiting to see what happens!

9lb+ baby, no GD, spontaneous/natural birth at 39+4

Baby had however been issued an official eviction notice Grin drs would have induced if i'd hit 40wks, they weren't willing to leave me any longer than that.

Verbena87 · 06/07/2021 10:37

Mine measured big. No gd but did go overdue and he was 10lb9oz - if I was doing it again I’d induce sooner but we both still made it!
