Oblique baby

Currently 37 weeks pregnant, been having regular scans as baby is measuring 97th centile. At my last midwife appointment they said babys growth hadn't shot up so all going well at my last scan at 38+2 I can be moved off high risk.

It's seeming likely that I will be moved back to green light delivery meaning I can have one as natural as I'd like although my only worry is at around 34 weeks baby moved from head down position to oblique (head slightly to the side of the pelvis) at my last appointment with MW she said that baby was still oblique this was at 36+2.

Has anyone had a natural birth with baby being oblique or know of any way to help entice the little ones head back towards the pelvis?

This is my second child and birth was natural and straightforward with DC1.

TIA

I recall reading that the more time you can spend on all fours, or at least leaning forwards, the more it encourages a head down position.

There is a website Spinning Babies which has exercises which are supposed to help but I never tried this.

@minipie thank you I will have to give this a try, MW haven't said that it could cause complications at birth but I would ideally like the head to be engaged come my next scan.

Lots of helpful videos of Youtube. Forward leaning inversion as PP has said and squats are really helpful to get baby into ideal position.

Are you based in England? I've been measuring at 97th centile for all appointments, bar my last one which is what caused me to be sent for a scan, not the fact that the baby was measuring big. I was sure 97th centile in itself would warrant a growth scan (like in your case) but was only sent for one when baby's growth had apparently slowed down Confused.

Also recommend having a look at spinning babies. They can change at any point regardless. My daughter became transverse in labour 😬.

I had mine turned successfully by a doctor at hospital. Apparently not usually successful.
But I then had a caesarian for different reasons. Baby had stayed in place though

@HumunaHey I'm going to give these a try, do you think the squats would be OK to do on the birthing/pregnancy ball rather than stand alone squats?

I'm based in Scotland started measuring 97th centile around 28 weeks and had to do tests for gestational diabetes which all came back normal, my DC1 was 8lb 5.5oz so the hospital said I possibly just birth bigger babies. At the last scan they said that baby is on the top line which was good as long as baby didn't go over that line so they booked me back in for 4 weeks after that scan to ensure babys weight has stayed the same.

I wouldnt have thought it would have been a worry if the babys weight had slowed down as that means there's a chance the baby could come back down to "normal" birthweight. Have you been back for your growth scan?

@Chanel05 I had a look at spinning baby but can't really see much in terms of oblique babies, which seems to be the case with most Google searching it typically reverts to breech babies.

@friendlyflicka did you have an ECV? Babys head was down and then somehow managed to move slightly to the left. At the MW appointment last week the MW sort of cupped babys head to check and see where it was and it didn't feel too far away from the pelvis.

Yeah I think a birthing ball would be great.

I get tips on the Emma's Diary app. Found the link and there's some exercises/positions you can do which they say can help baby get into the best position.

www.emmasdiary.co.uk/pregnancy-and-birth/3rd-trimester-pregnancy/the-benefits-of-a-birthing-ball

It's under the "Simple Birthing Ball Exercises to Try" section.

I've had just the one growth scan so far and have another booked in for next week to ensure all is well. I assume the midwife's initial measurement of my belly was off as my first baby was just 6lb 6oz. I guess it'll all be more apparent at the next growth scan.

@HumunaHey thank you so much for the link, I will be giving these exercises a try tonight 🙌

I hope all goes well with your next scan , I've heard a few people say that sometimes the MWs get it wrong with the sizes. On the plus side though with the extra scans at least we are getting extra glimpses of the babies❤

Yes, I had ECV and the dr was amazed by how well it went. I didn't find it uncomfortable. I found it fascinating as I could watch the progress of the baby as the doctor worked. This was years ago. Baby in question is now 18!

Sweetpea12 · 05/07/2021 16:49

My baby was in oblique position and by a week later he had moved to head down.I was advised to go on short walks not sure if that’s why he moved but it possibly did help as I had been resting quite a lot before that and today at 38 weeks mw said his head is on the brink of being in the right place
