Just wondering if anyone has hand any similar experiences.

At 20 week scan baby’s head was measuring small but told nothing to worry about.
33 week scan on Friday indicated the head hadn’t grown much and slipped further down the centile plot.

I asked the sonographer if there was anything to worry about but she basically handed my my notes while ushering me out the door and said not to worry. She did say during the scan that the head was in an awkward position to get a good reading but she did in the end.

Obviously that didn’t do much to alleviate my worries. I can’t find the date of next mw app as it’s not in my book so hoping it’s soon so I can speak to her. In the meantime does anyone with more knowledge than me have any words of advice? It’s first baby so I’m not sure how much I should be worried by this.

Thanks

Hi,

I saw this and had to reply as this happened with my daughter at 33 weeks. Her head was so small it was off the scale. At the time it was awful and I felt ill. Fast forward two years and she’s perfect! Even when she came out there was nothing wrong with her head Confused Please try not to worry and hope that’s helped x

"no obvious fetal defect" on first note.

so it's all good.
someone has to be on the end ranges of centile charts, but it's still within the normal range.
if there were any issues they would've said.

it's a shame they were rushing you and couldn't reassure you, but honestly it's a good sign.
the one time the sonographer took her time way beyond reasonable and then invited 3 more people in to check & consult it was because there was no heartbeat.

I'd take conveyor belt, rush through & kicked out any day!
please try to not worry. xx

The bottom of the centile chart means in a group of 100 babies yours would be in the 5 with the smallest head. Likelihood is those 5 are all perfectly fine. Do you have a big or a small head?

My baby had one of the head measurements off the other end of the centiles. The sonographer we went quiet and went away, then came back and said it’s fine, the threshold of the measurement that would be a concern (with no other indicators) was way higher than the top end of the centiles. He’s 11 now and fine.

@LaylaFrankie1 I’m sorry you went through the worry too, but so glad your little girl is perfect. Thank you for replying it means a lot, I’m an anxious Annie lol x

I tried to post a photo of a preterm chart for head size but it doesn't seem to have worked. My son was born at 31w 3ds and his was 29 cm which us the 25th percentile by the time he reach his due date he was on the 75th! I think that measurent puts your babys head at between 9th and 25th but remember scan are hard to get exact measurements from anyway.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 03/07/2021 18:21

Thank you @HappyDaysToCome @ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba it makes a lot of sense when you put it in those terms. Of course I need to step away from doctor google, it doesn’t help anyone.

I don’t think the sonographer meant to rush me out, I was an early appointment and they were running 20 mins late already so I think it was more just saying what needed to be said rather than taking time to reassure me which could have taken ages lol.

Thanks all! Feeling more calm now.

No worries lovely! I had to message I just can’t understand how worried you are. My daughter’s head indicated microcephaly and honestly she’s absolutely fine in every way. I know it’s so hard but try not to worry xx

LaylaFrankie1 · 03/07/2021 18:24

*can not can’t 😂

especially that baby's head being in an awkward position wasn't helping.

(I reckon one less ice cream in the future...naughty baby!😉🤣)

glad you feel better now x

Hi, just wondering if you have an update? My baby's head was in 1% at 20 and 24 week scans, amnio has ruled out genetic issues, anxiously awaiting my 28 week scan. Thank you

Nikki037297 · 20/02/2022 20:34

If it’s on the graph it’s fine! It’s when it’s off the graph with an arrow it’s bad so please don’t worry the graph means that’s normal size the line in the middle is perfectly average then either side is slightly larger or smaller.

Maighread · 20/02/2022 21:08

My little one has been up and down from 10 - 17th percentile since 21 weeks. They'll monitor you but if they have nothing to worry about then I don't think there is anything to worry about. She was on the 3rd centile for head circumference from 21 - 25 weeks and then she's growing so they don't seem to concerned. It's an awful worry all the same !! x

Hello, how did everything workout? I have the same measurements.
