i had my 20 week scan at 20 weeks and 3 days, the sonographer said she was moving a lot! he needed to check her legs but couldn’t because she had them crossed, i’m not sure if she had them crossed the whole scan or if she suddenly decided to be stubborn, he asked me if i wanted to know the gender and then he told me it was a little girl. i’m so confused though if her legs or ankles were crossed? he didn’t sound uncertain and he never said he wasn’t sure so am i just overthinking?

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Please could you clarify your question - are you asking how he could tell, if her legs were crossed? Or are you asking whether he was sure or not?

OK thanks. Was this NHS? They have a very detailed look from all angles so he will have seen at some point, and also normally when babies cross their legs they cross them around knee-height anyway so if anything this would actually improve the view, not obscure it.

If it's NHS they wouldn't say it if not reasonably sure, there is no requirement for them to tell you so if he hadn't got a view he would have just said 'sorry I couldn't tell'. Bear in mind though that it is no guarantee, they do make mistakes on sex, it's not what they are primarily looking for in these scans.

Hope that helps!

We will be looking the entire time.. not specifically at one point. We might hold off telling you for while though until we’ve seen from of different angles though.. also, we’re bit allowed to be 100% accurate.
