Membrane sweeps

I'm 39+5 weeks pregnant today and just had my third failed sweep. Has anyone else experienced this? It's been so painful every time and midwife hasn't been able to reach my cervix. Feeling disheartened, due in 3 days and will have to have induction next week if baby doesn't make an appearance 🥲 has anyone had failed sweeps/closed cervix but still gone into labour shortly after? 🤞

I'm due to have a sweep next Thursday, hope it works. Have never had one before so am also keen to know the answer. Induction will be booked for Monday the 12th

May I ask why you've had 3 sweeps before your due date? Is there a medical reason to hurry things along?

Hopefully the midwife has already explained this, but there's very little evidence that sweeps do much at all. And they certainly can't make a baby that isn't ready yet suddenly be ready. If your cervix is still barely reachable, then that's a big sign that baby isn't ready yet.

i encourage you to look into the positive birthing company - they have quite a lot of free videos on Youtube, or their online course is about £39, and worth every penny. You just watch videos but it will help you understand so much about these important few days

If you can, try not to hurry baby out unnecessarily; if you can wait to go into labour naturally in a positive frame of mind, it is so much better for you and the baby. I promise you wont be pregnant forever -even though it feels like it!! x

Hi, I have gestational diabetes and baby was estimated around 8.5 pounds on a scan at 38 weeks so they said they will do sweeps and if baby isn't here by 40+6 then an induction is recommended.
I think that's one of my main concerns and why I'm wanting to hurry things along is that he's going to get bigger as time goes on and it's a bit of a worry as a ftm.
