C section wound smell…

I had a c section 16 days ago. Healing has been good. My midwife said it was pretty much healed and looking great when she last checked. Yesterday I noticed a foul smell from it but it looks totally fine. I feel well in myself. Kinda gross but I wondered if it was from how warm it was and probably got a bit sweaty. But I’ve just had a shower, dried the area and I can still smell it. Could it be infected or is this normal?

I would get it checked out. I haven't had a c-section before, but I have had my appendix out and I had a similar thing - I felt fine, wound looked fine, but it smelt. Got it checked out anyway and turns out it was infected underneath the scar and had to go into hospital for IV drip antibiotics.

Best to get it checked just in case x

Not a medical professional but had two c sections and there was no smell. Definitely get it checked out. Hope all ok.

Best to get it checked out, I had the same and it was infected. Is there any pain at all? It could be a yeast infection to if it's got a bit hot and sweaty

Sounds like the start of an infection, get it checked out.

I had a bad infection after my last and it was completely painless. Started out with a funky sweaty smell then became red and angry looking (still no pain). They put me on 2 types of antibiotics to clear it up as it started separating again and I had to have undisolved stitches removed.

It's almost certainly infected and I'd get seen ASAP. My scar got infected and I was given antibiotics straight away. I felt absolutely fine, it was the midwife who spotted it.

I then ended up having another infection - lochia I think? Then a water infection!

Life after a c section can be tough, be gentle with yourself and congratulations Thanks

We always check wounds for odour because its a sign of infection in almost all cases
