Anyone else have little black lumps down there :/ apparently called: angiokeratomas

Hi all,

I have discovered two little hard nodules in my vulva (sorry TMI but want to be specific as to where they are) so I thought hmm maybe they're ingrown hairs as I can't see past my huge bump to shave properly down there lol!

So I asked DP to check and see if they were and to his horror he said, "erm they're really black!?!"

I freaked out ran and got a mirror and saw these two hard black almost blood blistery types of spots! I spent all night on Google (I'm such an idiot I know!) and panicked myself. Didn't get a wink of sleep!

This morning I realised I hadn't searched "black hard spots on vulvar pregnancy" so of course last night I got awful searches that were telling me I had cancerous lumps! But today after the "pregnancy" search it seems like these are very common in pregnancy called: angiokeratomas ... apparently if you try and pop them they will bleed out a lot! I am trying my best to leave mine alone! They don't hurt otherwise.

I am just wondering if anyone else has these/had these during their pregnancy?

Of course, I am not going to ignore them and I will get a professionals opinion, but wanted peace of mind that these horrid things are harmless and just another lovely symptom we have to go through.

Many thanks x

Just to put your mind at rest I developed these during my first pregnancy and was concerned they were going to be there forever, or get worse as time went on. Actually the only time I notice them is when they break and I get a small amount of blood on wiping, then they disappear for a while (or they seem to just be black marks that lie close to the skin) Every now and again they get hard again and the process starts again but to be honest the only time I know they're there is when I wipe away a bit of blood. Hope that puts your mind at rest a bit x

lukiebebe · 02/07/2021 08:28

@burtle4 thanks so much for your response! That does put my mind at ease to know others have had these too during pregnant and it's not just me with something sinister! Luckily, mine have not popped yet and hopefully they don't! I'm leaving them alone now and just trying to ignore them in hope that they will disappear lol!

That's what I do!

burtle4 · 02/07/2021 08:38

Ps. I did go to the doctor after I first noticed them and she said not to worry, they're just little blood blisters caused by excess pressure during pregnancy x

Dyra · 02/07/2021 11:33

I work in obstetric theatres, so I see them a lot. Don't worry, you are far from alone

Fryeng · 02/07/2021 13:45

Yes I have them too, like you I googled and worried for weeks, panicked and got really upset. I've calmed myself down now, I mentioned them to my midwife and she said they sound normal but to go to the doctor if they become itchy or painful. I have about 5 and only on one side. They aren't painful but I hate the fact that they are visible and raised, I'm really hoping that they disappear after pregnancy!

lukiebebe · 02/07/2021 16:21

@Dyra thanks so much for your message this is also very reassuring!

@Fryeng yes exactly like you I panicked too! Glad I'm not the only one but I agree they aren't pleasant are they! Hopefully they will disappear post birth!!

@lukiebebe agreed, at least we know others have them too, I'd never heard of them before so although they are unpleasant, it is a little reassuring to know that we're not the only ones!

FictionalCharacter · 02/07/2021 17:05

Yes I had these too. A lot more than two Blush They are harmless. They do gradually disappear - warning, they might be there a long time! Please don’t try to pop them - it wouldn’t achieve anything and you don’t want an infection in broken skin.

Just wanted to say thank you to the OP for posting this (and to everyone who has commented too). I’m having the same issue at nearly 9 months pregnant and scared myself to death today googling the symptoms, and convinced myself I was going to die! Then I thankfully just came across this thread which sounds like exactly what I’m experiencing and I feel like I can let my breath out for the first time today.

Going to get it checked out anyway just in case but it’s so reassuring to know there seems to potentially be a not-serious reason behind it that makes a lot more sense with me being pregnant. Thanks again!

Mumofonexo · 20/05/2025 21:55

Hi OP did yours ever disappear?

MumNeedsChocolate · 21/05/2025 11:22

Hiya! I'm the OP just different name now.

Three babies later and they appeared each pregnancy. My latest pregnancy (I'm currently 7 months PP) one went so big! But once LO was born they've gone down. They're still there but very small.

I’m so pleased you’ve said this lol because my son is nearly 2 and I’ve still got 3 tiny ones that don’t seem to be shifting yet online it said they go away! It’s so strange what happens from pregnancy x

I'm so glad to have come across this thread. I'm having a CS tomorrow and thought I'd treat myself to a full on groom, including hair removal down below for the first time in months (not being vain, but I've read they shave some hair off anyway, so I figured I'd get a head start!). Smearing on my veet, I felt a hard lump. It was only after I'd de-fluffed myself that I decided to investigate using a mirror and I was HORRIFIED to see not just one huge black lump, but two little ones as well. First Google search brought up vulva melanoma, so like others on this thread a few years ago, I'm preparing myself to die as a new mother... It's only when I thought to add "pregnancy" to the search that this, along with other less scary results, popped up.

Has anyone had any treatment for these, or do I just accept this will be my postpartum body now and let my hair grow back to hide it?! I figured I'll ask about it at the hospital tomorrow either way. But I really wish I hadn't reached for the veet now (partly because of the unsightly lumps, but also as I've done a dreadful job haha).

Pregnancy is so glamorous! Mine haven’t gone away and bleed if I cut myself shaving or push on them. Good luck with your c section and let us know if they say anything about removing them 🤣

Hello! So glad I came across this post. I'm 39 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I have 9 of these on my left side!! I'm really wanting a natural birth and I'm so scared they're all going to start bleeding during the pushing phase?! I caught 1 the other week on a razor and it bled so bad! I'm scared the pressure is going to cause them all to bleed. Any advice please? X

Hope everything goes well for you!
some of mine have completely gone, I think I have 2 now but they aren’t raised at all and don’t have any issues when shaving / at all, I don’t really notice or think about them now. I had a long labour and there were no issues with them at all, for me everything else going on took away any thoughts about these.

rosepedal · 06/03/2026 02:39

Do they look raised but than when you feel it it isnt necessarily raised? I have one one each side. They seem reddish/black
