Hi girlies. This is so TMI but I've been prescribed pessaries for my pregnancy but it seems to always leak? Is this normal?

What type of pessaries? Progesterone? Anal or vaginal use?

starfishmummy · 02/07/2021 00:13

Eh? Garman Pessaries are vaginal. If anal they'd be suppositories.

Garman · 02/07/2021 06:58

Sorry 🙄 What I meant was if she's been prescribed progesterone to use vaginally it can be better to use it anally as it doesn't leak out as badly.

haidri · 02/07/2021 09:17

@Garman it's vaginally

Yes, unfortunately a common side effect of using the pessaries. I just wear a pad and apparently if you lie down for 20 minutes or so after it helps. I'm 16 weeks now and am just weaning myself off them and to be honest they don't bother me at all now, must have just got used to the leakage!x

So @Garman is correct if it's progesterone you can use them both ways their is no difference. I had them from 11 weeks and used them rectally so much nicer than vaginally, tired a few times just ended up in a mess as the wax comes back out

@boymum88 hi may I ask why u were given progesterone at a later stage than an earlier stage. When are you to take it until? Thanks

boymum88 · 02/07/2021 12:00

@IloveGod2 I have incompetent cervix so this is one of the treatments alongside a cervical stitch x I started at 11 weeks and took until 36 weeks then had my stitch removed at 36+4
