Pregnancy Skincare Stressing Me Out

Okay, so I am in my first trimester, 9+1 right now. My pregnancy was a (very happy) surprise. I already keep a pretty “clean” skincare routine.

As soon as I found out in week 5, I chucked my regular sunscreen and switched to mineral, tucked the VERY expensive new retinol I had only used two times into the back of the cupboard, and tossed the salicylic acid cleanser I would use every couple weeks.

I felt pretty confident about it, but then I think I maybe just read too many articles….

One of my serums had rosemary extract (or maybe it was licorice extract) at the very, very bottom of the list so I tossed it once I noticed. Same thing with one face cream, too.

Then some articles say all AHAs are bad, but others say glycolic acid should be fine as long as you’re not doing a crazy high amount, like in a peel.

Then I found a clean hemp cleanser I like. But some blogs say, “oh what if there is a TRACE amount of thc in hemp products” but from everything I know… that shouldn’t be an issue? Especially since they say you can eat hemp seeds so problem?

I just feel so anxious! I keep getting mixed messages in my research. I’ve started having weird dreams where I’m at an event and opt for a free spa experience and accidentally get slathered in retinols and acids! Aaaahhhh.

Have you considered a prescription skincare service. I use skin + me and cannot recommend them enough. As soon as I told them I was going to start TTC they switched my formula out (because of the retinol) for something pregnancy safe. Didn’t charge me extra despite it being a mid month switch either. My skin has never been better.

If you fancy trying it with 2 months free, you can use this code (there’s a refer a friend tab once you subscribe and you can share it with your friends if you like it) www.skinandme.com/?promocode=LISAW5PDN

Hi OP, I switched to Sukin sensitive range when I became pregnant. I wasn’t using retinols etc before, but was using things with essential oils in which I wasn’t comfortable using whilst pregnant. I actually contacted Sukin who confirmed it was safe for use in pregnancy. I’ve used it since 1st trimester and it’s actually the only thing that has kept my skin calm and clear. (I’ve always had good skin but pregnancy initially made it very red, blotchy and temperamental). You can buy it online, in Holland & Barrett or I often find it in TK Maxx. It’s really affordable. Hope that helps! Smile

Stop reading so much would be my advice. You're obviously anxious and this won't help.

It’s fine just use in moderation.
