Hi everyone,

I've recently found out I'm pregnant, I did a clear blue digital last week which came up with 2-3 weeks, and I did another yesterday which is now showing 3+ weeks, meaning I'm around 5-6 weeks pregnant.

I've been booked in for a telephone consultation with a midwife on the 5th of July, but today I've received a letter saying I've been booked in for a ultrasound on the 4th of July. Does this seem right? I didn't think I'd have my first scan until I was 10-13 weeks.

Sorry if I sound stupid, thankyou in an advance xx

That is weird. Assuming you have no complications that you have already told them about, someone has misbooked that. Scan 1 is 12 weeks, scan 2 is 20 weeks for the NHS.

That's exactly what I thought. I'm going to contact them and see what they say. Thankyou for replying xx Smile

When was your last period? Did you give that date when talking with the midwife? If you have irregular cycles, you may have ovulated later than expected.

Amichelle84 · 29/06/2021 22:24

It might be to confirm dates, I was given an early scan I wasn't 100% sure.

badatcrochet1996 · 29/06/2021 22:26

I'd just attend, lots of people would kill for an early reassurance scan.

If you don't want it then cancel.

ameliaxzahra · 30/06/2021 08:17

Hiya, just to update you all, I spoke to the ultrasound department and they said it's normal procedure, they just need to do an early scan to see how far I am and to have proof on my file etc.

I'm not 100% how far I am, my implant was removed late April and I haven't had a period since!

So the scan is still going ahead Smile xx

Ah they’re scanning you because you have no idea when you’re LMP would of been. That makes sense. Good luck!!

Hiya!
I’m new to this and didn’t know where to post and would really like some advise.
I’m 21 years old and me and my boyfriend have had discussions about me coming off my depo injection (contraception) to try for a baby. I’m so wanting to have a baby due to termination of twins in 2018 as I wasn’t ready. Maybe it was a sign as One had already passed and the other one had to be terminated due to complications.
I’m currently unemployed and I don’t drive. My boyfriend has his own place and is very financially stable & so are my family. I’m still having worries as I don’t want to be a lost cause. But all I have on my mind is a baby! What do I do?

Hi hun,

I'm 20, 21 in October, I recently found out about my pregnancy, came as a total shock if I'm honest. I had a lot of different thoughts/scenarios going through my head, but the more I thought about it the more excited I became.

I have a full-time job with decent pay, my partner also works full time with a good wage, so financially we're okay. I don't drive but my partner does, which will be helpful in future, and we also both have very supportive families.

My only advice is really really think about it, it's a massive lifestyle change. I would recommended before you start trying for a baby, try to get into some sort of employment, and save save save. Because babies can be expensive haha.

You will know when you're ready, and it will happen when the time is right. I know it's exciting to have a baby, but I think a lot of people forget how actually difficult it can be. If you do ever need someone to speak to please let me know, my Instagram is azm_.x I'm here to listen!

Wish you all the best hun xx Smile

Also, I'm really sorry to hear about your last pregnancy. I can't imagine how difficult that would of been. Sending you lots of love xx

sorry, is this a vaginal scan to date the pregnancy? I didn't clock that.

that's different than usual 12 w scan so I've no idea how those are booked nowadays.
I had one with DS3 but that was 17 y ago so no weekend appointments or scans unless emergency.

it should all be fine then.
best of luck & congrats.

Bonjourfern · 02/07/2021 10:58

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba
I work in ultrasound. They do scan at weekends at my hospital trust. Only in the largest hospital sites. All the trusts round the East Midlands do at the larger hospitals. They don't normally scan early just because you don't know your LMP though. Its not National protocol to scan in early pregnancy unless you have pain/bleeding or recurrent miscarriage. Sounds like you have a lovely efficient midwife who has arranged it for you OP.

Hiya, on the letter it says I've been invited to a obstetric ultrasound, and to go with a full bladder so I don't think it's a vaginal one, but that's the part that confused me, I removed my implant April/may and haven't had a period since then, but I took 2 clear blue tests, one on the 21st which came up as 2-3 weeks, then another on the 28th which came up as 3+, meaning I must be 5-6 weeks, but if that's the case, I don't understand why they'd do a scan because I'm so early, surely it'll be quite difficult to see anything?

But when I called them, I said how early I was and they just said it's normal procedure so they can have proof for my file etc, so I'm really not sure, but the scan is scheduled for Sunday so when I go I will come back & update.xx

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/07/2021 11:22

@Bonjourfern

sure. as I said I don't know the protocol now.
I guess you/they try to fit things in as they can.

my scan with DS3 wasn't urgent, they just wanted to date pg because the last period I had was the one before I had a BFP with DS2!😳🤣🤣
so it was booked on a weekday, I was told they only scan at weekends if emergency.

@ameliaxzahra
clearly I'm not up-to-date as my youngest is almost 7.
apologies for any confusion.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 02/07/2021 11:49

Just a note of caution - the ultrasound tech might not know about your discussion on the phone w midwife. I had this issue where the ultrasound tech sort of looked a bit worried and said "it does seem to be measuring behind at only 10 weeks not 12" (as measuring behind is usually a bad sign) and I had to be very clear that I was only EXPECTING 10 weeks but my midwife insisted on booking a scan at 12 weeks based on LMP. So basically be v v clear with the Ultrasound tech that you believe you are only 6weeks
