Can Canestan cream be used for thrush in early pregnancy (6 weeks). Wanted to ask pharmacist in Boots today, but when he came over to serve me, I chickened out, mainly because he looked about 12!! Thanks for any advice.

I had thrush when I was later on in pregnancy and had the embarassment of asking at Boots for Caneston and them turning me away..they wouldn't dish it out cos I was pregnant! (They could see my bump).

I was then forced to go to the docs who wrote me a prescription (free) for Caneston (Doctor took my word for it - didn't ask to look at it!).

So, you could take the risk and get it from Boots as you're not showing....or go to the docs, double check its ok and get it for free!

After all that, doesn't really answer your question does it?!

Canesten cream is fine for use during pg, u can also use the pessary as long as you don't put it in too far . If in doubt though see your doctor.

I found that Canesten didn't clear it up for me though so the doc prescribed an internal cream called Nystatin (or Nystan) which although had to be used for 14 days (so a bit yuk) did the trick very quickly and (touch wood) it has not returned.

Gynodaktarin is very good for thrush if canestan doesn't work, prescription only though. If you use a pessary insert with your fingers and not the applicator when pregnant.

I had thrush and was told to use 1% canesten NOT 2% by pharmacist. Worked a treat!!
