Polyhydramnios and PPROM - so confused?!

I’m 35+1 and the Friday before last (11 days ago) I was admitted to the maternity ward after I had a small trickle of fluid. I had a swab and tested positive for amniotic fluid, so had suspected PPROM. I was given steroid injections and started a 10 day course of antibiotics. I was discharged after 4 nights and sent home to monitor things, back in twice a week for checks. Since this happened I’ve had three scans, the latest being today. The first two were fine, but today I was told I have Polyhydramnios, which is so confusing given I’m meant to be leaking amniotic fluid! The doctor I saw said you can have false positives for the amniotic fluid swab, and told me not to worry about the polyhydramnio. For one I’m now very confused about the situation - do I have both polyhdramnios and PPROM?! If so surely the two conditions are more concerning than just the one alone? I’m being induced at 37 weeks and feeling quite uneasy about everything. Apparently my biggest pool of fluid is 10cm. Does anyone have any experience of either, or both conditions?!

I've no idea if you have both but please keep a very close eye on the baby's movements. If they change in any way, go in to be checked.

Hi. I had polyhydraminos with ds from 31 weeks.

He came at 39 weeks but I’d definitely been leaking water from 37 weeks, I had to keep going in and they were making me wear pads and swabbing them etc they told me I was wetting myself (I wasn’t) I had regular scans / check ups from 31 weeks. It was picked up at a random 4d scan I booked..

He came out at 39 weeks on the dot with the most dry and wrinkliest skin I’d ever seen.

The water volume changes day to day as the baby drinks the water I can remember the consultant telling me this.

I can’t remember too much off the top of my head tbh as it was 8 years ago now. But I have a pregnancy diary I can check back on! I used to write shit in it after every appointment Blush

@danni0509 thanks for replying ☺️ I didn’t know it was possible to have both at the same time. The doctor I saw today concluded that as I now have a lot of fluid it’s likely I don’t have PPROM and that the swab could have been a false positive. It’s extremely confusing and I now don’t really know if I have one issue over the other or both. I feel so uneasy about it all. I think I’m going to call tomorrow and ask for a second opinion. I was initially told I would have twice weekly scans because of PPROM, but since the fluid levels were found to be too high today I’ve been told I won’t have the scans and just twice weekly monitoring, whereas surely they need to keep an eye on the fluid levels?! I really hope they start coming down again, but then I’ll never know if I don’t have scans. I had a scan last Friday, so only three days ago and fluid levels were fine then! X
