Eating Dates - recipe ideas please!

So apparently eating 6 dates a day can help with labour. It's been recommended on our NCT group and a friend of mine who is a midwife. However, I really dislike the taste. I've been adding them to smoothies/milkshakes but can only do that 2 at a time because they're overly sweet (and this is from someone that can demolish a packet of haribo).

Has anyone else eaten them during their final weeks? Or does anyone have any tips/tricks for eating them that isn't just by themselves?

Date flapjacks?

I made a delicious honey and date cake at the weekend.

I don’t mind the taste of them but to make them go down easier I spread some peanut butter in the middle, and sometimes put a bit of dark chocolate on top! Quick and easy!

Lots of energy bar recipes use dates rather than sugar to make them sweet. You can finely chop them or put them in a food processor and mix with oats and chopped nuts and then use honey/maple syrup/peanut butter to bind together then put in the fridge to set. There's lots of recipes online for energy bars. I made some before my baby was born as I was bored on maternity leave and got into baking, ate the leftover dates as a snack each day and realised I quite liked them and several months on I still buy them to snack on each time I go shopping.

Wrapped in bacon? The salt in the meat will mellow the sweetness and the sugars in the dates will make the bacon caramelise

We do an Xmas snack - get a date, vtake stone out. Put an almond in middle where tje stone was. wrap in streaky bacon. Hold together with cocktail stick. Roast for about 10 mins.

Two at a time is plenty! My friend had a giant baby eating dates. It's funny now but he was an 11 pounder!

I did date pancakes the few days prior and all was well.

Also, it's just occurred to me that sticky toffee pudding uses dates... Grin

I ate 6 dates a day from 36 weeks onwards when I was pregnant with DS1. He was 6lb 6oz.
