How will I know if I'm feeling movements?!

I'm currently 16+5 with my first and I dont know if I'm feeling movements or just general bodily movements. Sometimes I'll feel a little pop but not sure if it is just wind moving down 😂
I'm not worried whether or not I can feel anything as I know you often can't til around 18 wks. I just want to know so that I can marvel at it if it is baby!!

What were your first movements like, how did you know, how would you describe it? Xx

To me they felt like popcorn kernels popping inside, low down in my pelvis! People always say they feel like wind; but I think the sensation is quite unique and I could tell exactly what it was, it’s unmistakable.

Oh and I could feel them at 16+ weeks, too.

Mine were just as you described. They became more frequent and stronger over time and so once that happened I knew in hindsight that what I’d felt at 17 weeks was definitely the baby!

Rhythmic taps very low down towards my pubic bone was how I'd describe early movements. I was never quite sure it was the baby unless they came in bouts of 2 or more taps, often with similar timing between them so less likely to be gas bubbles.

To me they started around 18 weeks (anterior placenta) and I could only describe it as feeling like trapped wind! It literally felt like a fart moving around!

To me at 16 weeks, it felt like a little muscle twitching in my abdomen.

GummyBear91 · 27/06/2021 20:52

Mine started pretty early at 16w. Felt like I was being flicked from the inside right low down. I really had to concentrate. My placenta is in a posterior position up high so not blocking her movements at all.

11 weeks on I'm now often saying ouch in response to her kicks but it's been a very gradual increase of strength over the weeks. Some don't really feel anything until 20 or so weeks.

Amazing! I'm pretty sure it's baby I'm feeling but not 100%!! I always thought you'd just know but maybe it takes a while to get used to the feelings and the pattern. So exciting 🥰

With my first baby he always moved when I was eating or drinking Grin I distinctly remember sitting down with a cup of tea and feeling a little dragging right down my middle above my belly button and a thump. No mistaking it.

With this baby I was convinced I was feeling wind for weeks - little pops always on my lower left side of my tummy where you would expect wind! until I went for my 20 week scan and they said she's hiding down low on your left side with her bum tucked behind your pelvis. Then it all made sense!

Somewhere around 22/23 weeks it just stops being little 'was that?' pops and swooshes and becomes big turns and kicks and thumps.

I felt exactly the same kind of movements at around the same time as you (I’m 19+5 now) and the movements have got stronger since! It will almost certainly be baby Smile

SpringRainbow · 28/06/2021 06:50

It can be very hard to tell at first, but in time they become much stronger.
