Feel like I've got my babies leg stuck in my rib.

I'm 33 weeks pregnant and am having constant pain just underneath my right boob on my ribs. I had a scan recently and baby is head down so can only think he has his feet pushed into my ribs or whatever organ is in that area. Baby is moving a lot so I'm hoping he may reposition himself into a slightly comfier spot as I don't know if I can come with potentially another 7 weeks of this! Has anyone had anything similar and if so what helped? I'm finding its constant regardless of my position and paracetamol/heatbags etc do absolutely zilch to ease it!

I have this on and off (32 weeks) and can sympathise as it’s not comfy! I find that being on all fours helps pull everything down - a modified child’s pose is quite relaxing. Do you have a ball? In my first pregnancy I spent a fair chunk of time draped over it so it was between my boobs and top of bump (hope that makes sense!) and used to read or watch a film on my phone on the floor!
Swimming is the other relaxing one that could help.
It’s difficult though isn’t it, we’re rapidly getting to the point where nothing is comfy anymore!

Had it from 26 weeks right up until the end my lord it was sore. I used to take painkillers if really bad, try sitting up very straight or getting right over a birthing ball to give him loads of space
When they scanned me was like ohh look his foots in ur ribs ( well I could have told u that lol)
Maybe also tell ur midwife. When I told my consultant she did bloods to check for preeclampsia as right rib pain can be a symptom

Nat4392 · 24/06/2021 16:22

I had this all the time! Her foot or knee was constantly getting wedged under my ribs. I found sitting up straight or getting on the birthing bell helped. It only eased right near the end once she dropped!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/06/2021 16:45

been there, done that, got a house full of y-shirts🤣

very annoying. DS1 was the worst, he stuck his foot under my left ribcage then hiccupped a lot - it was so painful.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/06/2021 16:46

ffs!
*t-shirts!

Although it’s most likely that it can also be liver pain due to cholestasis (as I have had) or even pre eclampsia. Worth mentioning at your next appointment!

I'm 33 weeks too, and had this for the last 6 or so weeks on and off. Some days it's worse than others and I find car seats particularly bad for causing it! My baby is head down, so everyone (midwife, sonographer, consultant) has just said it'll be baby's legs in that area. Unfortunately I think it's just part of pregnancy for some people. You kind of get used to it. I find lying on my left side relieves it best.

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 24/06/2021 17:02

It probably is just positioning but definitely get it checked out - I had pain that I assumed was a pointy bit of baby but it was actually my liver.

Honeycub · 24/06/2021 18:15

Thank you for letting me know about the pre-eclampsia, I didn't know it was a symptom I'm sure it's just his foot as I find it eases slightly when being up right but will get it checked either way 😊

Yes I had this - it has eased off in the past few weeks as baby’s head is now engaged, but was super painful - I found cool packs better than heat. I would also get a kind of fizzing sensation underneath the ribs (mine was left side) which felt horrible and I assume was some sort of nerve compression. Wearing any kind of bra made things worse. Sorry no solutions just sympathy!

MeadowHay · 24/06/2021 21:17

I don't have this, and am only 25 weeks but already have a huge bump (certainly compared to last time anyway!) and I also have baby in a position that is causing me pain. On the right hand side of my lower abs next to my belly button you can feel like a big hard mass and they frequently push this out against my belly and it is so painful! And they're only tiny still Shock. I am hoping they will move a bit soon as it's been like this the last couple of weeks and am already fed up, it literally stops me in my tracks the pain is that bad. I dunno what it is but it feels big like maybe it's bum? Am wondering if they are transverse maybe, I dunno. My DD was transverse until about 35 weeks or so but I didn't have this with her though.

De88 · 25/06/2021 00:53

All mine had big old feet and bums and the only thing that helped was yoga! It definitely creates more space in the ribs for a bit and helps shift them, just avoid deep squatting until midwife says its OK.

I'm so happy I'm not the only one who gets the 'fizzing' feeling! I've been getting this on and off on my left side, it doesn't hurt but feels very weird and no way to ease it. Nerves makes sense.
Honeycub · 25/06/2021 09:42

I get the 'fizzy' down below which I thought was weird but the midwife said it was just baby sat on a nerve. When it happens I just try give him a little tickle to move him out the way 😂 I've just ordered a birth ball so I swap my work chair as I think my posture isn't helping the pain.

I had this with DD1 and ended up at the assessment unit as they had to check for preeclampsia etc. Nope just a foot in my rib cage. It’s so painful isn’t it! I’m also quite large chested so I had to tie a scarf under my boobs then up around my neck to lift them up off the top of my bump 😂 I echo what a PP said, I spent a few days bouncing on a birthing ball and that seemed to shift her along. DD has very long leggies so not surprised how far up they got!

Worriesome · 26/06/2021 09:56

@Honeycub I had this in my last pregnancy. I was so sure there was a foot lodged under my left boob and it was so painful.

I used ibuprofen gel even though I probably shouldn’t have but I was so desperate for some sort of relief! Anyway it didn’t work, nothing worked until the day I gave birth and lo and behold the pain vanished.

Sorry I don’t mean to dishearten u but that was my experience, it was truly dreadful and I sympathise with u x
