If you’ve experienced an induction with pessary, how long was it from pessary to birth? How many weeks were you and were you having contractions before induction?

I had a pessary at 8 on a Tuesday. Sent home. Started contractions at 7am the following morning. Water broke at 3pm that day but then contractions stopped so I was put on the drip. Which was fine but painful so took the offered epidural. Baby born 3.30am on the Thursday morning. From first contractions to birth was 21 hours give or take.

41+5. Pessary at 20.45. DH sent home. Contractions went from mild cramping at 21.30 to unbearable by 23.30. Checked around 02.00 and told only 3cm.

Pethidine about 05.00 with no further check as as assumed hadn't progressed much.

07.30 checked with doctor saying, "I hear you've had a bit of a rough night. Well we're going to check but you were only 3 cm a few hours ago so don't be too upset if you aren't much more, let's have a look woh you're 10cm we need to move you to a private room".

DS born at 09.20. So only about 12.5 hours from pessary to birth.

I was 37+2. Had the pessary for 24hrs with nothing but mild cramping. I then had the gel, contractions started 2 hrs later, then baby came 4 hrs after that. X

I had to be induced and I stayed in from first pessary. I had a pessary at 14:00 and then again at 18:00 an hour later as I was jumping up and down on the birth ball I felt and heard a pop and then contractions started coming quick and fast from 19:45 and delivered DS at 12:38 the next day.

40+1 No contractions beforehand. Pessary at 11am, waters broke when I sat up. Baby arrived at 2:14pm (the same day!)

Induced at 38+3. Pessary inserted 615pm, contractions started 630, waters broke 815 and baby born 404AM so super quick here

I was 41 weeks had the pessary at 4pm had to lay still for an hour then was was allowed to stand up, i waddled over to the bathroom and my waters broke on the way there...... pains started not long after and he was born at midnight (4th baby though and all my labours had been relatively quick)

PostmanPatandhiscat · 23/06/2021 11:18

41(+5) No contractions . Pessary at 8.30am , contractions started at 1pm , by 2pm I was in flown blown Labour and
Like pp they said to me it doesn’t always work first time so they didn’t expect me to be in Labour , just my womb contracting to which I replied “if this isn’t f&@£ing Labour I dread what it’s going to be like when it is 😂”, this was during an internal at 4pm , I was 10cms dilated and they rushed me to a delivery room and baby born at 17.10pm

37 weeks due to ICP. Had about 4 pessaries over a week and got to 1 cm dilated. They couldn’t break waters and baby (and mum!) in distress so emergency CS. Meconium and blood in waters so right decision.

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 23/06/2021 11:23

I was 40+1 with no sign of Labour already (they said they thought it wouldn't work as my cervix was nowhere near ready when it was inserted). Pessary inserted at 8pm. No sign of labour until full blown contractions started all at once at 8pm the following day. Baby born 63 minutes after that!

HaNNaHC92 · 23/06/2021 11:23

I was induced 5 weeks ago. My baby was 13 days overdue. I had a pessary put in at 1.40pm. Had a few small pains and niggles over a few hours but nothing much. My waters suddenly broke at 10.30pm that evening and my baby was born at 11.57pm. So a very quick 1hr 27mins labour progressing the same day as the induction.

42 weeks, 6 hours after the pessary until contractions started, 30 hours after the pessary until birth

Peach01 · 23/06/2021 11:52

40 weeks. Had first pessary at 6pm and gave birth 2 days later.
Before the first pessary they told me I wouldn't need all 3 as I was 1cm dilated when I went in and would be on the labour ward the next day.
I got put to the front of the queue the next day due to complications but didn't get taken until early hours of the following morning as there were a few emergencies.
I did need all 3 pessaries and I was only just beyond 2cm dilated after the 3rd. They broke my waters on the labour ward and got me on the drip. Midwife struggled to break them but the dr was great. The 2nd pessary brought on bad back contractions.

Nam095 · 23/06/2021 11:53

Induced with pessary at 37+1 3pm, had regular contractions within an hour and was 2cm dilated around 9pm after they checked me so I could have pethidine as I was in quite a bit of pain, and would have been moved to the labour ward to have my waters broken at that time had a bed been available but because there wasn’t I was in the induction suite till 1pm the following day. Was still 2cm when I was checked after being moved to labour ward, had my waters broken and gave birth an hour later 🙃 so if I had been moved to labour ward when they initially wanted to it would have taken 8 hours from induction to birth. So the induction definitely worked for me.
